In a historical change late on Thursday night in the UK, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III took the step to begin the formal procedure of removing Prince Andrew’s royal styles, titles, and honors.

Charles Is Done With Andrew

The news arrived on the BBC within minutes of the press release. Notably, it seems like a decisive measure to totally separate the royal family from the Duke of York.

Clearly, King Charles finally made a decisive move to deal with the Firm’s PR regarding the highly unpleasant situation of his liaison with the sex offender, Jeffrey Epstein.

The anchor explained that the statement from the Palace read that Prince Andrew should be called simply “Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from now on.”

The press release also gave considerable information about his change of residence by saying that “He has already been formally informed that a lease will be surrendered and that he will relocate to another private residence.”

Correspondent Helena Wilkinson Explains

Of course, this takes Andrew out of his 30-room Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park. BBC correspondent Helena Wilkinson, reporting live from Windsor, commented on the developments and said that the King’s step made it a formal one whereas it was on a voluntary basis before.

According to the Palace, the harsh measures were taken for the good of the institution. Helena noted it happened “despite the fact that he keeps denying the accusations.”

The section of the statement that’s particularly interesting reflected the monarch’s feelings about the scandal. It said, “their Majesties wish to emphasize that their thoughts and deepest sympathies have been, as well as will be, with the victims and survivors of any type of abuse.”

The breakthrough comes after massive media and public pressure.  Wilkinson told the story, pointing out what was the most important difference between the current and previous steps: “In fact, up to this point, Prince Andrew was voluntarily giving up those titles and the honors but it meant that they were sitting dormant.”

A Symbolic Step

Now, there’s a more permanent and symbolic step taken by the monarch to cut the connection of his brother. Meanwhile, the move to force Andrew out of Royal Lodge, in a sense, brings to an end the question that sat at the heart of the public debates.

The correspondent remarked that the “optics of all this,” means the disgraced prince being housed in a huge 30-room mansion, had become “obviously unsustainable.”

After tough negotiations, the Palace decided to take action to not only solve a deeply personal family crisis. Obviously, the steps also handle a serious threat to the monarchy’s reputation.

Royal Family Critics React

In the comments section, many people had their say about the now ex-Prince Andrew and the decision by King Charles. Presumably, Prince William also gave the decision a thumbs-up.

One person opined, “Should have happened under The Queens reign, the damage this boy/man has done can’t be measured. Hope to never hear from him or his ex wife again.”

Here are more responses from the discussion area:

  • I suspect there is more scandal to come, there’s no way this would be happening if there wasn’t. Historic scandal!
  • This only happens when the palace knows theres something even worse still to come out, hes done.
  • Andrew will lose his ability to just breeze through airports with no hold ups or baggage checks in addition to now being ‘merely’ a commoner. Oh how the mighty, the hubristic, the arrogant, the privileged one has fallen. Long overdue and just a pity it took this long.
  • This is a crushing blow to Andrew. Losing the home and titles is a major punishment for someone who literally got off on having that power.
