Singer David Anthony Burke, AKA D4vd, appeared back in a Los Angeles courtroom for a quick status conference.

Remember, he faces charges for the first-degree murder, continuous sexual abuse, and mutilation of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.

Prosecutors say Burke lured the teenager to his Hollywood Hills home. They claim he killed her to keep their illegal relationship a secret.

Police later found her dismembered body inside a Tesla trunk.

Julia Deng Weighs In

Reporter Julia Deng said the whole thing lasted just four minutes while discussing the hearing on Law&Crime Network.

She noted that the judge pushed the preliminary hearing back to late July after a private meeting in chambers.

The defense said it needs more time to review a massive amount of digital evidence. That includes text messages and photos.

D4vd Doesn’t Look Great

Deng noted that Burke appeared tired. She said he had bags under his eyes and looked like he hadn’t slept in days. Plus she talked about how he might not be coping with life behind bars,

Still, he sat down, nodded, and even smiled at his lawyers. That’s a pretty bold look for someone appearing in court in a bright orange jail jumpsuit.

Jesse Weber cited Private investigator Steve Fischer who posted on X, positing that an innocent person would tell their lawyers to move along. “Get me the bleep out of here.”

Fischer argued that an innocent defendant would be pushing for a faster resolution. Burke’s attorneys, however, requested additional time to review the evidence.

No Family Present

The courtroom was empty except for reporters and a few spectators. None of Burke’s friends or family were present in court, and there has been little public support visible since his arrest.

Perhaps they stay away from the scandal. Prosecutors are preparing to present DNA evidence allegedly linked to blood found in Burke’s garage.

They also have texts mentioning “plan B” and “pregnancy.” The next status conference is set for July 7.
