When the Nancy Guthrie case went quiet, folks like Ashleigh Banfield moved over to cover the news about Brian Hooker, suspected of murder in the Bahamas. However, new news arrived that brings the mom of Savannah Guthrie back into the headlines. Read on for more details.
New DNA Possibility
On Thursday night, Brian took to his Brian Entin Investigates channel and reported that forensic evidence isn’t over yet. According to sources, he mentioned that hairs were found inside Nancy’s home. So, they’ve been sent to the FBI lab for analysis.
It could be the breakthrough that Tucson investigators have been hoping for. It wasn’t that long ago that CeCe Moore, a genetic genealogist, suggested a single hair could help identify her suspected abductor.
Why Hairs Can Help
In fact, she explained that the technology exists to do that. Plus, more seems to be fast-tracked because of the Nancy Guthrie case. Previous reports suggested that the gloves didn’t pan out, and other news arrived that mixed DNA results mean they were not ideal for extraction.

In his new report, Brian Entin said that he “confirmed” some DNA evidence from Nancy Guthrie’s home has been sent to the FBI’s lab for advanced analysis. Actually, he noted that it’s the first time we heard about any hairs being collected.
Apparently, they also went to the Florida lab that Sheriff Nanos opted for. Notably, Nanos confirmed it isn’t new information. But, they might have sent it to other folks because duplicate tech might help.
Expert Weighs In
CeCe Moore joined Brian again, and she told him that the hairs seem rather interesting. In fact, she said that she was “hoping they had hairs to work with.” So, she’s feeling “excited.” Then, she mentioned that possibly the hairs “didn’t have a root.”
However, she talked about how there are specialists out there to extract “SNIP profiles from rootless hair.” True crime followers really hope that finally, there might be a breakthrough. CeCe seems to think they could identify a suspect. However, it’s not known at this stage if it will do that.
Actually, it might be more of a tool to “rule out” a suspect rather than rule them in. If you followed the Gilgo Beach killer, Rex Heuermann, they used new DNA forensics to help their case. So, hairs could turn out to be “very valuable.”

One person wrote in the comments, “Wow let’s hope and pray this will be the one piece of key evidence that breaks the case wide open.”
And that seems to be the feelings of many folks who followed the Nancy Guthrie story from the beginning. Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- I appreciate the fact that you don’t try blowing things up by shouting and being over dramatic and it’s so cool that you are typically the first reporter with breaking news.
- It breaks my heart to think how frightened she must have been during this kidnapping. I hope they find the evil heartless people who did this.
- Should have been with FBI…From the beginning.
