‘The Young and the Restless’ POLL: Should Dylan McAvoy be Recast or Written Out? VOTE!

'The Young and the Restless' POLL: Should Dylan McAvoy be Recast or Written Out? VOTE!Steve Burton (Dylan) opted not to renew his contract on ‘The Young and the Restless’. So, he’ll be filming his final scenes in December. Viewers will last see his version of Dylan in Genoa City early next year. But, should this role be recast, or written out?

Successful modern actors earn enough money in a few years to retire. So, Burton is long past the point where he actually needs a job to survive. His most recent gig, working as Dylan on Y&R, was a smart move. He opted to play against type. Moving away from a killer character to a vulnerable war hero. In so doing, the Indiana native created a pleasant character on one of daytime’s classic soaps.

The Beverly Hills High School graduate actually didn’t begin his long daytime run on ABC’s ‘General Hospital’ in 1991. Instead, he was first seen as Harris Michaels on NBC’s ‘Days of Our Lives’ in 1988. Of course, Burton became famous for his portrayal of the dark Jason Morgan character through 2012. He’s also voiced the American edition of ‘Cloud Strife’ in a series of video games since 2002 and has worked on various other television and movie projects since his career started in 1982, when he appeared in the TV movie ‘Hear No Evil’.

Y&R’s evolving Christian reveal storyline could be the climax that ends Dylan’s days in Wisconsin. Clearly, disillusionment in learning that Sully isn’t his child, steeped in Sharon’s (Sharon Case) lies, is an obvious opening for his potential departure. Surely a more dramatic ending could also be penned, as Dylan’s detective duties could result in death. Viewers can also easily imagine him contacting an unseen Jessica Collins (Avery) when he leaves Sharon. Of course, these options assume that executive producer Mal Young and new head writer Sally Sussman will decide to write Dylan out of the script.

If this character will be recast, then a different type of star’s sendoff will be created. Instead of dying, or leaving town forever, Burton’s final dramatic scene would be shown. Then, the new actor’s name would be announced as the second version of Dylan appears in the next episode, or an episode that’s shown in the near future.

If he is leaving on his own accord, write him out….bring in someone new….To bad he is not staying, he made a good addition to the cast..

First they kill off the good looking Adam and now the good looking Dylan. Why do the good ones always have to go.

Steve Burton owned his time as Dylan! It’s a shame he’s choosing to leave Y&R. A recast is more beneficial then another one of Paul’s children to die. Or Nikki to turn to the bottle again. Slip in a perfect RECAST for Dylan McAvoy!
