‘General Hospital’ News: Maurice Benard Slams Ron Carlivati At GH Fan Club Weekend

The fans are divided how they feel about Maurice Benard’s rant about Ron Carlivati’s exit from “General Hospital.” At an exclusive “GH” event (General Hospital Fan Club) over the weekend, Benard took the time to reveal much more than exclusive spoilers. He revealed just how he felt about Carlivati and his writing.
Maurice Benard, the actor who portrays Sonny Corinthos, was clearly not happy with the direction of the show under former head writer Ron Carlivati. He never mentions his name directly in his comments, only to call him ‘the writer’. He started his rant by telling the “General Hospital” fans that they got rid of ‘the writer’. He said that ‘the writer’ was never a fan of his and that was not a smart thing. He went on to say, “The future is looking bright, and for the first time I am excited about going to work again.”
A few fans felt that he was using Anthony Geary’s words. It wasn’t too long ago that Anthony Geary said the same thing about Carlivati including referring to him as ‘the writer’. Both Geary and Benard never mention Carlivati by name, however, everyone knew exactly who they were talking about. Geary implied that the reason he retired was he didn’t want to work with Carlivati. He reacted to Ron Carlivati’s recent firing by saying he was open to returning to the show from time to time.
Benard and Geary are not the only actors that believe that Carlivati was not good for the show. Michael Easton, who played Dr. Silas Clay, blamed Carlivati for his departure from the show. Thousands of fans reacted to Easton’s firing from the show by launching a petition to call for Michael Easton’s return to “General Hospital.” The petition needed 8,000 signatures by Aug. 14. They are 231 signatures away from meeting their goal with four days remaining on the campaign.
Maurice Benard ended his rant by telling his fans that they are the important ones. He said, “if you all don’t like stuff, and it keeps going on forever…eventually sh*t gets fixed.” So “GH” fans, how do you feel about Maurice Benard’s rant about the former head writer, Ron Carlivati? I don’t think Maurice went to far at all. We have all been frustrated with the writing,, I’ve been holding on because it’s my only soap left and I do love it. Was hoping things would improve and now thanks to the firing of ( the writer) it will. And I really think it sucks that Silas is dead.
Ok to have an opinion, everyone does. Might not have been Mo’s smartest choice to say that to fans when phones are available to tape. Better to have said something along the lines of a lot of changes lately but the cast is excited to move forward. U really HAVE to be careful these days with social media! He wasnt.
I think Maurice did the right thing. “The Writer” was not good for General Hospital. I’m so happy that a person from the show spoke there mind. Maybe we can get things rolling now and bring back some of the awesome people that we have missed for so long. Plus getting Sam and Jason back together sooner than later will be AWESOME. I don’t want Liz to leave the show BUT GET AWAY FROM JASON. HE BELONGS WITH HIS WIFE AND SON. I think we have been waiting long enough for this..so has Carly, Sonny, Sam, Monica, Michael, and everyone else who was affected by Jason being in there lives..Just do the right thing and very soon..PLEASE PLEASE AND THANK YOU
I have to respect Maurice for having the courage to speak out on this subject. He has been on this soap 20+ years ( as well as Tony Geary) and should be able to know when something works and when it does not work. Even Michael who only has 3+ years under his belt with GH, knew that something was not right with the soap. Hopefully the ladies will bring GH back to the “yesteryears” and get the ratings out of the gutter (1.9 last rating). Y&R is so jumbled yet it keeps the #1 spot and I desperately want GH in that spot. I miss seeing the veterans who have given their talents to this soap for years and are now only used occasionally and then it seems only as a “filler” . Yet GH keeps bringing in new faces and puts them front and center while the veterans are back burnered. This makes me sad as I grew up watching this soap and definitely do not want it to be cancelled because of low viewer statistics. Please, please give me back my old GENERAL HOSPITAL.
NO he did NOT go too far!!! I’m sick of everyone being so politically correct all the time and worrying about everyone. “The writer” fickin sucked! They were losing viewers and ratings and something needed to be done! Obviously the writer was the problem and they fixed the problem….good for them. I, too am excited to see what the future has in store for General Hospital!

I think Maurice was correct in his decision to speak as he did he has been playing that character for a long time and knows better than that particular writer, I do believe that some of the storylines tend to drag on and on and on and get boring which is not good. I hated to see Helena go as she is a great villain.Its time for Elizabeth to take a vacation I think she is getting on everyones last nerve
I do like the new Jason, perhaps they can talk Tony Geary into coming back periodically
I have watching Michael Easton on television since he appeared on the soaps he always brought ratings up like Anthony Geary and Maurice Benard . We need good stories lines we have excellent acting here.
I wish we learned this earlier, we could have fought and complained maybe Tony Geary would stick around from time to time. Maybe with a new writer and Anthony relaxes for few years maybe he can return part time. things always change.
of course maurice overstepped. everyone is replaceable and he should be damn grateful for the job. How quickly everyone forgot if it wasn’t for RC “the writer” GH would’ve been off the air years ago.
We all know RC can write riveting material and anyone who doubts it can re-watch the amazing material he wrote for the end of OLTL. Everyone loved it and it definitely satisfied when no one ever thought that anything could. Michael Easton is an ok actor but he is nothing special and actually rather one dimensional. Thank God they got Roger H before he was unfairly bashed & hung out to dry. I don’t give a crap about what the ratings say, maybe it’s all you naysayers out in social media constantly telling everyone how much GH sucks. If I didn’t know better I wouldn’t tune in either. All this soapy talk about it being called GH yet very little hospital. Yah, lets dig up jessie brewer and steve hardy so they can sit at the nurses station nail biting over the next victims test results. BORING. I hope you are all happy now…doesn’t anyone remember we were supposed to ban together to save the entire genre. This bullcrap is absolutely part of the reason ABC couldn’t be bothered to deal with all the fans whining. Maurice was disrespectful, you never know when you may have to work with that person again. Obviously he and Tony are just a tad too big for their britches
