‘General Hospital’ Interview: Tyler Christopher Discusses Nikolas And Liz’s Relationship, Working With Rebecca Budig And Kelly Monaco

“General Hospital” star Tyler Christopher talks to Soap Opera Digest revealing how grateful he is for his 20 plus year career, nerves while filming the Jake [Billy Miller] reveal, and working with his real-life cousin, Kelly Monaco. He answers fan’s questions without any hesitation, and he was completely honest and witty in his responses. Soap Opera Spy selected a few of the best questions and answers in the article.

Tyler was asked if there is a chance for Nik and Liz to get back together. He replied, “I think there will always be a chance, but as long as Jake’s issue is looming, there is no possibility for romance.”

Another fan asked him how he liked working with Rebecca Budig. He replied, “Rebecca is great! I haven’t had the opportunity much in my career to be paired with someone with as much daytime experience as I [20 years] have. We have great chemistry on the screen, and I think she is just great.”

Christopher noted that he had enjoyed portraying a much darker character than in recent years. He said that the darker personality was giving him a depth and layers that he didn’t know the show planned on giving him. He said, “They have written Nikolas to be a Cassadine lately.”

Tyler explained that he doesn’t think that Nik will face any backlash from withholding the truth from Jake or ordering Hayden [Rebecca Budig] to be killed. He said, “Oh, come on; he’s Nik Cassadine! He is not going to get punished. He’ll move on with his life and continue to throw his power around for years to come. That’s what he does!”

Tyler said that taping the Jake reveal episode was extremely nerve-wracking. He stated, “I knew everyone was going to tune in order to see how bad [or good] it was going to turn out. The pressure was already high enough [on the actors and production] to perform at the high level extremely quickly. The nervous energy was ten times higher than the live show we taped earlier in the year. For me, I think it went better than expected.”

Christopher explained that he enjoyed working with his cousin, Kelly Monaco. He said, “We have a good rapport- Kelly and me. I love our scenes together, and she works very hard. I know she enjoys the work we do together. I have always enjoyed any opportunity that would allow me to work alongside her professionally.”
