An Orlando mom, Michelle Parker disappeared in November 2011, and the arrest of her former fiancé, Dale Smith Jr., goes through pre-trial hearings. He was arrested on October 14, 2026, and charged with second-degree murder, although her body hasn’t been located. This week, there was a rather unusual step regarding the arrest affidavit.
Unsealing An Arrest Affidavit
According to a report by ClickOrlando, an “Orange County judge” recently agreed to unseal the 46-page “arrest affidavit” following a motion filed by “News 6.”
The outlet also said, “On Monday, the judge also issued a temporary gag order against defense attorney Rajan Joshi, barring him from commenting on the case or the affidavit once it is released.”

The prosecution had argued that “Joshi’s previous public statements could taint a jury pool.”
Keeping It From The Judge?
Meanwhile, as FOX 35 Orlando reported on YouTube, “The Central Florida cold case [has] been going on for about 15 years. Dale Smith Junior was arrested several days ago in connection to the disappearance of Michelle Parker back in 2011.”
The anchor also explained that “they were in front of a judge today in Orange County, trying to see if we’re going to be able to see the arrest affidavit.”
Reporter Marie Edinger was in the courtroom and she said that prosecutors “had previously wanted the document kept confidential, including from the public and the defense, and even the judge,” because investigators still had two interviews to conduct.
They expected those interviews to be completed by Sunday and said the affidavit could therefore be unsealed soon. Until then, they wanted its contents kept out of the public domain.
A Short Recap
The story started when Smith and Michelle Parker appeared on an episode of The People’s Court to dispute a $5,000 engagement ring. It seemed to true crime followers rather odd that the episode aired on the same day that she disappeared.
The case went cold, and recent updates arrived when investigators used modern technology with digital forensics to re-analyze cellphones, computers, and location data collected back in 2011.
While police and prosecutors seem confident that evidence points toward Dale Smith Jr. as the person responsible, the defense maintains his innocence as they await a bond hearing once the affidavit is fully accessible.

As the legal proceedings continue, true crime followers debate the long cold case and the lack of information.
One of them wrote, “Fabricated, conclusive reports… written without investigation to conceal truth without regard [to] dignity to the victims/survivors.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussions:
- “Lots of cases never investigated.”
- “It took that long? Seems obvious.”
- “Michelle rest in peace – hope her family finally finds closure and peace.”
