Lori Vallow Appeal Date Set As True Crime Viewers Say ‘Enough’

True crime fatigue may be setting in, but the mother dubbed the “Doomsday Mom” is back in the news. Perhaps you watched Lori Vallow Daybell’s story in the Netflix documentary series Sins of Our Mother.

Now, amid coverage of the Lindsay Clancy jury deliberations, Vallow has resurfaced because a date has been set for oral arguments in her appeal.

When Is the Appeal Hearing?

The Idaho Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in Lori Vallow Daybell’s appeal on November 2 at the Supreme Court building in Boise.

The news was reported Tuesday night by East Idaho News on YouTube. Host Nate Eaton explained explained that Vallow is not expected to appear in court for the hearing, which should last approximately one hour.

The justices will read the legal papers before the hearing and can ask questions on the day.

The November appeal relates only to the Idaho case. It has nothing to do with Vallow’s later convictions in Arizona.

The Original Idaho Case

Vallow was convicted in Idaho in 2023 of murdering her two children, 16-year-old Tylee Ryan and seven-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow, and conspiring to murder Tammy Daybell.

Tylee was Vallow’s biological daughter from a previous marriage. JJ, who was Charles Vallow’s biological great-nephew, was adopted by Charles and Lori when they were married.

Tammy was the wife of Chad Daybell, whom Lori later married.

Two Other Separate Convictions

In two separate Arizona trials in 2025, Vallow was convicted of conspiring to murder Charles and conspiring in the attempted murder of Brandon Boudreaux, her niece’s former husband.

Charles was fatally shot by Lori’s brother, Alex Cox, in July 2019. Cox claimed he acted in self-defence, but prosecutors later argued that he and Lori had planned the killing. Cox died in December 2019 before he could be charged.

Boudreaux survived a drive-by shooting outside his Arizona home in October 2019.

Prosecutors alleged that Lori wanted Charles dead so she could benefit financially and continue her relationship with Chad Daybell.

The Appeal Contains Several Arguments

The appeal concerning Vallow’s Idaho convictions raises several issues:

• The removal of her original lawyer, Mark Means.
• Hearings allegedly held without her while she was deemed incompetent to stand trial.
• The admission of evidence relating to the Arizona crimes.
• An alleged violation of her constitutional right to a speedy trial.

The Backstory of Lori

Lori began communicating with Chad Daybell, an author known for apocalyptic fiction about preparing for the end of the world.

Her friend Melanie Gibb later recalled hearing the pair talk about people becoming “zombies,” while another friend told CBS’s 48 Hours that Lori began describing her husband, Charles Vallow, as a “demon.”

True Crime Watchers Tire of the Case
