It’s been nearly 15 years since Orlando mother Michelle Parker vanished in November 2011. Now, her former fiancé, Dale Smith Jr., has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. He was taken into custody on October 14, 2026.
The Body Was Never Found
Although the body of Michelle Parker was never found, police believe they have enough evidence to link Smith to the crime.

The breakthrough came with the help of digital forensics and a new review of the cold case files. Per FOX 35 Orlando, Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith said in a press conference:
Smith was the last known person to see or hear from Michelle on Nov. 17, 2011, after she dropped their children off at his home. Over the past year, we’ve expanded our investigative team looking into this case and took a fresh-focused look at all of the evidence.
Another officer explained that new evidence had been collected and modern technology that wasn’t previously available helped with the evidence needed for a trial.
The TV Appearance
The case initially attracted a lot of public interest because in 2011, the couple had appeared in an episode of The People’s Court. It covered their dispute over a $5,000 engagement ring.
NBC News noted that the episode aired on the day Parker vanished. The quote cited Michelle Parker as saying, “He gets pretty malicious and vindictive… He said that he wanted his ring, so I took it off, and I threw it at him.”
It’s not known whether that will form part of the evidence in court.
Breakthroughs and Evidence
FOX 35 Orlando reported that investigators used “advances in digital forensics to uncover and analyze additional evidence.” Detectives were able to re-analyze cellphones, computers, vehicles, and cameras collected in 2011.
Hindustan Times noted that police officers had questioned Dale Smith over the years, and they noticed that his answers were not always consistent.
Security cameras captured Parker arriving at Smith’s apartment complex to drop off their children, but she never showed up for her job and never spoke to her family again.
Her black Hummer turned up abandoned the next day with her business decal scraped off the window, and divers later recovered her iPhone from Lake Conway, south of Orlando.
Police emphasized that “all evidence leads to Dale Smith Jr. as the person responsible,” but her location remains a mystery.
Search Efforts
Over the years, searches were renewed, but Michelle was never found. Divers had searched Lake Conway and nearby canals soon after she disappeared.
Then three eyars ago, detectives used ground-penetrating radar to search beneath a concrete slab in the backyard of Dale Smith Sr.’s property on Rose Boulevard, but they found nothing.
Nevertheless, despite arresting Smith, they will continue to look for her remains.
