Another musician has been injured in a car accident and this time, it involved rock star Gene Simmons, who passed out in his car. 2025 hasn’t been kind to folks in the industry, and in July, the news arrived that Felipe Silva, a 24-year-old country singer on the rise, died in a pickup truck accident in Tocantins, Brazil.
What Happened To Gene Simmons?
On October 7, The Sun US reported that Gene Simmons, who helped found the hard rock band KISS, passed out while driving. The outlet reported that the “76-year-old rocker reportedly passed out behind the wheel on Pacific Coast Highway Tuesday.”

When he fainted, his car went on its own mission, crossing several lanes of traffic near Malibu. Although he went to the hospital, his wife, Shannon Tweed, said that he’s back home where he’s recovering from his injuries. Doctors suggested he may have needed some hydration following a medical issue.
Another Singer Met Fate In A Car
Just the day before that report arrived, fans in the UK heard that Ann Everton, a member of the Darsombra rock band, passed away as a result of an auto accident. She was in the USA on tour. The accident, which happened on October 3, involved a stationary police vehicle that was parked while an officer conducted a traffic stop.
Back in March, Love and Hop star Apple Watts ended up in a hospital after the car she was in was in a wreck. The terrible crash shattered her spine and fractured her skull. Via her sister, fans heard that she was in a coma for four months. Right now, she’s reportedly awake and in rehab. However, she’s still in a wheelchair.
Other Bad News This Year
Other music news that arrived in late July involved David Roach from the rock band known as Junkyard. Well-known in Los Angeles, his fans heard some devastating news. While he wasn’t involved in a car accident, he was diagnosed with aggressive cancer.
Meanwhile, backing singer and dancer Michael Sumler, from Kool & The Gang, passed away. The 72-year-old star was also involved in a car accident. However, in his case, it took his life. No other cars were involved. It’s possible he fell asleep while driving after a long gig near Atlanta.
Why So Many Car Accidents?
It seems as if, apart from David Roach, car accidents plague the music industry. However, there are millions of auto accidents every single day. Because musicians have large audiences, their deaths and accidents hit the headlines.
Still, there’s a possibility that their working hours, combined with their burnout so often produced from touring, play a big factor in their road accidents.
