Prince Harry’s Invictus Games is facing one of its most trying times with the exit of two of the games’ top Chiefs.
This is coming on the heels of Harry appearing in court to dispute RAVEC community’s right to remove his police protection.
Morale For Invictus Games “At An All-time Low” Following Harry and Meghan’s “Troubles”
Harry and Meghan are hopping from one controversy to the next, and as they do so, Invictus Games is not the getting the amount of attention it deserves to thrive.
Despite Harry throwing a light on the competition series by creating a Netflix documentary around it, there’s still some internal issues that needs ironing out.
One of those is the shock dismissal of CEO Peter Lawless and Chief Commercial Officer Bill Cooper.
An insider complained that their dismissal, which happened “for no apparent reason,” has thrown “chaos” into the preparations.
They told the Mail: “The changes have unsettled staff, especially after two such well-liked bosses left. This is a significant setback with just over a year to deliver the Games. I’m told they are well over budget and no plan to close the gap even after securing $30million in government support.”
The insider added that this has affected the morale of the team, especially with Harry and Meghan being a constant distraction. “Prince Harry and his wife have become a significant distraction with all their troubles. Enough already.”
Nick Booth, one of Harry’s close friends, has stepped in as interim CEO of Vancouver and Whistler 2025. Booth was key to setting up Invictus Games, and he ran Prince William and Harry’s joint foundation from 2010 to 2017.
However, the foundation broke up following Prince William and Princess Kate’s fallout with Harry and Meghan Markle.
Invictus Games Spokesperson Says the Competition Is Still “On Track”
Despite the huge shakeup, an Invictus Spokesperson shared that they’re still very much focused on bringing the games to life.
“The entire team behind the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025 is focused and diligently working to host an incredible Games in February 2025, welcoming up to 550 competitors from up to 25 Nations.”
They added that Nick has been advising the team since the bid for the 2025 games was approved, so it was no major disruption having him step up.
“The organization is on track to meet its fundraising targets, thanks to a dedicated network of senior volunteers and our government partners.”
