Kate Middleton Visits Her Favorite Gallery After COVID-19 Shut Down

The Duchess of Cambridge stepped out solo on Wednesday to visit one of her favorite V&A museums, which is not far from her Kensington Palace home. She has been known for her love of art, having studied art history, and has from time to time taken her kids to visit museums around London.

Kate Middleton Views Raphael Court

Kate, 39, visited the museum as a royal patron to mark the reopening of the gallery and many other museums that were forced to shut down last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. During her visit, the Duchess viewed Raphael Court, home to the magnificent Raphael Cartoons. The gallery also went through a nine-month refurbishment to mark the 500th anniversary of the artist’s death.

She learned about the renovations and how the center’s new interpretive approach, which includes an on-site digital experience, will transform the way visitors experience The Raphael Cartoons. The Cartoons were lent to the V&A from the Royal Collection by Queen Elizabeth.

Kate was also taken to the museum’s landmark 2021 exhibition, Alice: Curiouser and Curiouser, which opens this weekend. The show features more than 300 objects from film, performance, fashion, art, music, and photography, and will capture the origins, adaptations, and reinventions of Alice in Wonderland over its 158 years of existence.

The V&A is the first museum that fully captures and explores the cultural impact of the book and its ongoing inspiration for leading creatives, from Salvador Dali and Yayoi Kusama to one of the most famous music groups in history, The Beatles and Vivienne Westwood.

She visited the museum wearing a black mask and black shoes, with a black clutch. She also sported a red long-sleeved pleated Alexandra Rich midi dress with black buttons. The Duchess of Cambridge took the opportunity to meet and chat with a group of museum staffers who discussed their various experiences working during a rough and challenging time for the museum sector.

The U.K. Begins To Lift COVID Lockdown Measures

Princess Kate’s visit to the museum and its reopening on Wednesday was a major sign that some normality is returning to the tourism sector. As for much of the U.K., galleries, museums, indoor hospitality, and businesses were allowed to reopen to customers on Monday.

Sports venues across the U.K. are also beginning to allow spectators back, with up to 10,000 fans allowed to attend football matches across Britain starting this week.

The V&A, established in 1852, has risen to become the world’s leading museum of art, design, and performance and its collections span over 5,000 years of creative human history in virtually every medium and from across the world.

As for the Duchess of Cambridge, she’s been busy with promoting her newly launched visual book that includes a 100 pictures that captures Britain during lockdown. Proceeds from the book will be split between the leading mental health charity Mind and the National Portrait Gallery.
