This surprised executive producer Bradley Bell, who says that those are pretty standard tricks of the trade. He discussed the shock over his statement going viral and other tricks that they will be using to film safely.

B&B might have been the first soap to return to production, but it also meant that all eyes were on them. Others are watching to see what is working for them, what isn’t, etc. One way they are working around the social distancing and love scene obstacles is by using spouses as love doubles. Other ways are mannequins, fusing two separate shots to make it seem like two actors are close together, and yes, even blow-up dolls as a last resort.

As previously reported, Bell and others in charge had made statements about possibly using mannequins and blow-up dolls in love scenes. Fans were not really sure if it was a joke or for real. It turns out that it is real, but only as a last resort.

The Bold And The Beautiful Spoilers – Bradley Bell Comments On Viral Headlines

Speaking to Soap Opera Digest, The Bold and the Beautiful executive producer and head writer explained that blow-up dolls and mannequins are pretty standard tricks of the trade. As it was mentioned a few weeks ago, one blow-up doll was previously used as a corpse. So, it’s not a totally foreign idea. Bell explained,

“I didn’t quite expect the reaction. They’re all kinds of innocent tricks of the trade. We’re doing the doll body doubles as basically props to get the proximity that we need… Well, we’ve had a few over the years. There have been stories in the past we’ve made them. We dug them out and put them back to use and then bought a few other ones that are readily available.”

As for how it feels to be back in production, Bell said that it’s exciting. However, he also realizes that safety must come first. As for how it’s going with using the spouses of current actors as love doubles, it’s turning out really well, despite all the new challenges.
