‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Sharon Admitted Sully Conceal – Out of Character Response Wasn’t Necessary

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Sharon Admitted Sully Conceal – Out of Character Response Wasn't NecessarySharon (Sharon Case) was withholding information on ‘The Young and the Restless’. But then she tried something different when Nick (Joshua Morrow) relayed a story that Patty (Stacy Haiduk) told him. Sharon could have tried using another ploy, withheld some facts or even lied to her ex-husband. Instead, she told the simple truth. Yes, Sully is Christian and she’s known that fact for many months. But, why did this character choose that option?

It was interesting to see Sharon finally break down. She pulled herself together after appearing to nearly collapse and overcoming nauseousness. The explanation she offered to Nick about Christian was actually much less melodramatic than expected. Apparently recent events involving Patty seemed to mentally prepare Sharon for this Dooms Day scenario.

Some viewers might wonder why Sharon didn’t continue to obfuscate reality. She wasn’t required to admit to knowing that Sully was Christian. Instead, Patty’s statements should have elicited a shocked response. There are only two other characters who had proof that Sharon had a DNA test conducted. Sage (Kelly Sullivan) was one of them and she’s dead. The other is Mariah (Camryn Grimes), who likely wasn’t going to sell her mom out.

Savvy fans understand that a change at the top of the Y&R writing staff took place a few months ago. So that transition surely impacted this storyline wrapping itself up in a way that seemed out of character where Sharon was concerned. While her denial in knowing that Sully was actually Christian wouldn’t have been full proof, she had that option and didn’t use it.

It’s true that soap opera fans suspend disbelief in order to accept preposterous events. But, devotees do expect the characters they follow to act consistently. Sharon drops her veil of lies when forced to. In this instance she had at least one more card to play. No one had any evidence that her memories of Dr. Anderson (Elizabeth Bogush) cleared long ago, that she paid for a scientific test to be conducted or that Sage confronted just prior to dying. So, there was no reason to divulge all of that information at once. Yet she did and now alternative outcomes to this arc have been shattered.
