‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Jack Targets True Foe – Victor Protects Personal Business

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Jack Targets True Foe - Victor Protects Personal BusinessVictor Newman (Eric Braeden) is a savvy businessman on ‘The Young and the Restless’. And, that’s how it should be. An unusual adventure pushed this iconic character into strange territory last year. But, the ‘Moustache’ has refocused his energies in the right direction as of late-2016, while his foil, Jack (Peter Bergman), has finally returned to the battlefield in Genoa City.

Doppelgangers do exist in real life. No, really, it’s true. With over seven billion people living on planet earth, similar looking people do exist that aren’t related by genetics. That makes scientific sense based upon the law of averages. However, it seemed deeply unlikely that a corporate titan would have enough time on his hands to even consider that Jack’s double might be alive and then to actually find him. Add in that Marco (Peter Bergman) was a Peruvian drug lord and viewers were presented with a soapy meal that didn’t seem appealing. Then, Phyllis’ (Gina Tognoni) bizarre acceptance of Marco as Jack also went undigested. All three courses of that meal were prepared by a chef who arguably underestimated his customers’ appetite.

Clearly, daytime drama fans buy into to the suspension of disbelief principle. They turn on Y&R knowing that it’s a fictional show with stretched premises. Fans don’t expect to see Victor, or Jack, in a series of dry corporate meetings, followed by daily dinners at the club with clients and a homespun set of straight family dealings. However, the resulting fallout of Victor’s actual crimes, while Jack created a self-imposed truce, helped to push various characters past their perceived boundary lines.

The ‘Philly’ reveal was used to reset Y&R’s main conflict. Victor and Jack will never sign a true accord agreement. Instead, the pride each man possess will overrule logic and continue to rule their lives indefinitely. Their families and employees will also continue serving as unwilling captives on two opposing ships. As this and similar future storylines play out, hardcore viewers will watch from the shoreline will collective smiles.
