‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Hilary Believes in Gossip – Devon Wants To Promote Ethics

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Hilary Believes in Gossip – Devon Wants To Promote EthicsHilary (Mishael Morgan) went along with Devon’s plan on ‘The Young and the Restless’. She edited out all unseemly moments that were digitally captured during her interviews with Billy (Jason Thompson), Vickie (Amelia) and Cane (Daniel Goddard). As soon as public comments appeared on the posted Brash and Sassy related video, Hilary admonished her husband. She told Devon that gossip still sells.

George Gray’s cameo appearance as the aptly named George was nicely placed within this crossover episode. CBS’ celebration of 30 years as broadcast network’s reigning daytime leader allowed a variety of well-known faces to appear on each other’s shows. In Gray’s case, he portrayed a disgruntled GC Buzz employee who chose to quit his job because of the changes Devon is attempting to implement.

Devon acted in good faith when he initially spoke to Howard Green (David Faustino, another recent celebrity guest star), who was the producer of the web site and connected television show. But, Howard wasn’t interested in Devon’s pitch to drop a salacious story involving the Abbott family. So, Katherine’s (Jeanne Cooper) grandson wisely chose to use his inheritance to promote the public good and bought the company. Whether he’ll be able to shape it into a sustained enterprise remains debatable.

Media ethics will likely always be a subject of discussion. True journalists aren’t advocates of any position, cause or political candidate. Operatives use First Amendment privileges to advance agendas that are often connected to personal interests, access to power and money. Gossip used to sell print products. In today’s world, scuttlebutt draws eyeballs to electronic gadgets that are monetized by interested corporate parties.

This isn’t the first time that Devon and Hilary have disagreed about morality matters. Whether the Chancellor heir will be able to convince his partner, otherwise known as his spouse, that she’s wrong is yet to be determined. But, ‘Hevon’s’ old-school business problem has a modern dimension. The super couple might opt to make money from scandal, or transform GC Buzz into a journalistic convention.
