'Dynasty' News: Primetime Soap Reboot In Works At The CW - Dynasty Returns!‘Dynasty,’ one of the most lavish primetime dramas of the 1980s, has been updated and production of the rebooted series is in the works. The project will be developed through CBS Studios in conjunction with Fake Empire productions.

Originally written and created by the husband and wife duo Esther Shapiro and Richard Shapiro and produced by Aaron Spelling, the 21st century version of ‘Dynasty’ has been entrusted to executive producers and writers Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage and Sallie Patrick.

The Shapiros’ will be part of the reboot as executive producers. Lis Rowinski of Fake Empire will serve as a co-executive producer. The primetime drama is currently in script development and there is no information yet as to what actors and actresses may portray the members of the wealthy Colby and Carrington families.

The CW plans to cast a Hispanic actress in the role of Cristal in order to add diversity to the cast of the ‘Dynasty’ reboot. But the premise will remain the same – Fallon is furious that father Blake is marrying his former secretary, the much younger Cristal. The rebooted series will focus on the story told from the perspective of both women Cristal and Fallon.

The original series aired on ABC from 1981 until 1989, a total of 220 episodes. ‘Dynasty’ focused on two powerful and wealthy families – the Carringtons and the Colbys living in Denver, Colorado. Both families achieved millionaire status through the oil business.

Blake Carrington, patriarch of the Carrington family, was portrayed by John Forsythe. Linda Evans portrayed his much younger new wife, Krystle Carrington. Pamela Sue Anderson took on the role of the spoiled and entitled Fallon Carrington Colby. Blake’s ex-wife Alexis Carrington Colby was portrayed by Joan Collins.

The storyline of the original series focused on the rivalry between the two large oil corporations, Blake’s Denver Carrington and Alexis’ Colby Co. The primetime soap opera also starred Gordon Thomas [Adam Carrington], Jack Coleman [Steven Carrington], Catherine Oxenberg [Amanda Bedford Carrington], Sammy Jo Dean Carrington [Heather Locklear], and John James [Jeff Colby].

After Pamela Sue Andersons exit from ‘Dynasty’ Emma Samms took over the role of Fallon Carrington Colby in 1985 until the series finale in 1989.

The news that a modern day ‘Dynasty’ is in the works has caused much excitement. There has been a lot of speculation over who will be tapped to portray the iconic characters created by John Forsythe, Linda Evans and Joan Collins. Fans also wonder if the Carringtons and the Colbys will still be wealthy oil tycoons or will they have found their fortunes in a new, modern day industry.
