The Boroughs Canceled By Netflix After Season 1

We had high hopes for Netflix new supernatural series The Boroughs.  Despite all the fanfare, Boroughs’ May 21 premiere on the streaming giant was underwhelming.

After just one month on Netflix, the app has announced that they are pulling the plug on the show and there won’t be another season.  Keep reading for all the details!

The Boroughs Flops

When Stranger Things came to an end in 2025, fans were looking forward to the next show from the Duffer Bros.

But, it looks like Stranger Things could end up being a one hit wonder for twins Ross and Matt Duffer.

The Boroughs has only been streaming on Netflix for one month and an unexpected press release reveals here won’t be a second season.

According to a new report from People Magazine, “Netflix has not shared details on why the show was canceled, and writers had reportedly been hired for a second season, with a third being planned.”

The Boroughs streaming ratings were nothing to write home about.  People added, “The series debuted to 5.6 million views during its first weekend, later growing to 9.5 million views after its first full week. However, it dropped to 3.7 million views in its second week.”

The Duffers Head To Paramount

It’s not clear why The Boroughs didn’t attract as much attention as Duffer’s Stranger Things series.

The sci-fi series actually had an amazing cast that included some big names like Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard and Bill Pullman.

Interestingly, the Duffer Bros inked a deal with Paramount+ last year.  The lack of a second season could be because they are busy working on their first movie for Paramount, which is set to premiere in November 2028.  The Stranger Things geniuses signed a four year deal with Netflix’ rivals.

Are you disappointed Netflix cancelled The Boroughs after one season?  What did you think of the new series?
