Survivor: Nicaragua Star Has Passed Away Unexpectedly

Survivor fans remember the cast even years after they appeared on the show, but Season 21 will stand out because of a twist. The two teams were based on age: above 40 and below 30. One of the contestants passed away in the last day. Read on for more details.

Who Passed Away?

The news of the death arrived on Facebook on Thursday, and the person who shared it was Ashley Hammett. The sad news means that she lost her mom, Jane Bright, from Survivor: Nicaragua, in Season 21. The 2010 contestant was 56 years old at the time. When she died, she was 71 years old.

Ashley said in her post, “Today Jane Bright was found passed away in her home by a good friend and [the] county sheriff.” 

The former contestant had many posts on her social media of dogs, dog training, and doing rescues. However, most people remember her from her gutsy efforts on the show. Parade reminded viewers that Jane did well as a team member. The outlet noted, “She played alongside legendary NFL Hall of Fame coach Jimmy Johnson.”

Additionally, “Jane Bright…took part in voting him out of the tribe on Day 9. She also began a rivalry with tribe member Marty Piombo and joined up with the younger tribe members with the sole intention of taking him and his allies out. Despite her age and small frame, Jane showed herself to be…’farm strong'”

Fans & Friends React To The Death 

Many stand-alone posts arrived from friends, but on Ashley’s page, people were also able to send in their condolences. One of them wrote, “I am so heartbroken to hear this. She was truly one of a kind and an inspiration to many…Sending prayers to you and family and friends as you navigate this time. Her spirit and memories will live on.”
