Whilst King Charles traversed through Canada and delivered a message of hope to the people of the Maple country, Prince Harry decided to do a thing.
Yes, the Prince decided to make an unannounced trip to Shanghai, China, and preach to us little people about why we should reduce our carbon footprint, especially when we travel. He didn’t walk or swim there, in case you’re wondering, he flew, so you can wonder how people would react to such hypocrisy.
At this point, I think Prince Harry has received so much criticism, he’ simply become immune, because, come on, anyone would see the controversies flowing in from a mile away.
Should Prince Harry Have Considered Giving A Virtual Speech At the Shanghai Climate Change Event?
Harry’s surprise visit is causing quite a stir online. Let’s just say that fans are not comfortable with Harry’s latest brand of climate awareness.
You jump onto a plane to travel to Shanghai just to tell us to understand how our travel could be affecting poor mother Earth and how we can take reasonable precautions to reduce, if not prevent, that?
Yes, the sentiment is lovely indeed, but that’s not the takeaway fans are seeing here. Last year, his brother Prince William flew to Cape Town, South Africa, to conduct his annual Earthshot Prize ceremony, so why aren’t fans biting him for it?
Well, I guess if I have to touch my finger on it I’d say that Harry’s visit more or less revolved around his speech, which can easily have been given from the comfort of his own home in Montecito mansion. Raise money for Travalyst? Got it. Reduce our travel carbon footprint?
Check check. Be environmentally conscious in our day to day living? Double check. We would definitely have understood the significance of his message even if he gave it from Montecito.
Failure to stay put in the US for this oh-so-important speech prompted The Telegraph columnist Michael Deacon to call him daft in a piece for the outlet.
Deacon wrote: ”At the very least, though, you’d say to yourself: “Hang on. I don’t need to fly 6,500 miles to give this speech. Because apparently there’s been a remarkable new technological breakthrough known as the ‘video call’. So, to demonstrate my selfless commitment to saving the planet, I’ll use it to give my speech from home.”
He added: “Harry, however, didn’t do this. Which suggests to me that he simply has no idea how daft he looks.”
