Jeffrey Epstein brought the downfall of Prince Andrew. Actually others are in the spotlight, if not as much as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Under the Trump administration, some Epstein files emerge, and the US Congress wants Andrew to answer some questions. However, he seems unwilling to do that.
Should Andrew Be Honest?
Right now, public attention lies with Prince Andrew. So Mark Owen and Dr. Ed Owens discuss the situation on France 24 English on Friday. Mark introduced Dr. Owens as a historian of the British monarchy. Additionally, he wrote a book titled, After Elizabeth: Can the Monarchy Save Itself?

In the discussion, Dr. Owens felt that Andrew needs to be honest and open to restore his reputation. But at the same time, he feels that’s an unlikely thing to happen. Notably, it all comes at a time when the Monarchy faces some vulnerability.
It Could Give Some Redemption
The doctor presented a straight choice for the prince. Explaining, he said that testifying would be the “quickest route… to some form of redemption.” Obviously, this path requires the prince to be “fully upfront and transparent.”

However, the royal family probably faces huge risks if Prince Andrew does open up. Dr. Owens believed Andrew has “more to lose engaging with the authorities.” In fact, new revelations could draw other figures “into the limelight.” So, the palace seemingly wants King Charles’s brother to “fade into the background.”
The Royal Family Bury Their Heads
Actually, the duo believe that the monarchy tends to “play ostrich and bury their heads in the sand.” Clearly, they hoped the Andrew problem would just go away. But this scandal was too severe.
The expert called the prince a “nightmare for the royal family.” That’s because his presence constantly threatens their reputation. So does Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle. Not to mention Sarah Ferguson as well.
A Vulnerable Monarchy
Now, the Andrew dilemma brings massive problems to the monarchy, and the royal expert pointed out that the “British monarchy has never been so unpopular.” Furthermore, the scandal exposed the “opaque nature of the royal finances.” People definitely started looking at whether tax payers paid for Prince Andrew’s home. So, secrecy damaged the institution’s modern image.
As the Andrew fallout threatens the monarchy’s future, King Charles struggles to leave a positive legacy. However, it does seem that Prince William will rule differently. And, there are stories that he wants to clean up the royal scandals. But for now, the shadow of Andrew and people like Prince Harry continue causing a lot of damage.
Viewers Respond In The Comments
In the comments section, one critic slammed the royal family. They opined, “Ban all monarchies around the world now. But protector of democracy won’t do it. They only care about democracy when natural resources like oil, gas, gold are involved.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion area:
- Andrew get’s the golden cage as a jail. While he belongs in a real one… So much for equality in UK…
- dont worry about him, he will die a millionaire.
- Is there concern that other members of the royal family are implicated? Fergie had her own relationship with Epstein. She received a lot of $$ from Epstein…
