Meghan Markle Using Her Title Is A Mortifying Mistake?

A new magazine feature on Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex unexpectedly created some controversy. Commentators Dan Wootton and Tom Sykes made a strong critique of the article. And in their discussion, they argued that the piece subtly sabotaged the Duchess.

The Magazine Wanted To Damage Meghan?

Actually, Wootton set the tone immediately on the Dan Wootton Outspoken podcast on YouTube on Saturday. He suggested the magazine editor intended to damage Meghan’s reputation.

He claimed the feature was so damaging it could cost her royal status. “Imagine being so hated by the magazine editor that wanted to turn you into a star,” Wootton said sarcastically.

And, he used the words, “they actually scr*w you over in such dramatic fashion that you may end up being stripped of your royal title.”

Mortifying Use Of A Title

At the center of the discussion was a focus on an anecdote. The journalist from Harper’s Bazaar described a private meeting in a New York apartment. There, a house manager apparently announced her as “Meghan, Duchess of Sussex.” However, it seems as if no one else was around.

In fact, the duo found that detail utterly mortifying. They considered it as proof that Prince Harry’s wife improperly used her title. Sykes, in particular, focused on this use of her title. He explained that using an aristocratic title in America was deeply uncool. “You just look like a sort of tryhard. You just look ridiculous,” he stated.

Backing up his feelings, he talked about Winston Churchill and other characters to support his point that Americans historically dismissed such trappings. He also claimed that even in Britain, people with genuine titles rarely used them as often as Meghan does.

An Ongoing War

Obviously, both men connected this behavior to a larger conflict. Wootton framed it as part of the Sussexes’ “ongoing war with the British royal family.” Between the two men, they predicted this would backfire.

Dan felt that Prince William was now “determined to strip the titles from Meghan and Harry in the fullness of time.” And, he called Meghan’s use of the Duchess of Sussex title in commercial settings a “spectacularly bad strategic move.”

Furthermore, Wootton analyzed Meghan’s quotes about Prince Harry. He noticed a telling imbalance. “She talks about how much he loves her. Nothing about her love for him,” he pointed out.

Next, the podcaster read out a passage where Meghan spoke of Harry’s “childlike wonder,” but only highlighted his love for her. Sykes agreed, calling it an “incredibly unusual description of a marital relationship.”

Mostly, the point of their focus seemed to be how Meghan Markle comes across as inauthentic and strategically foolish. Every action, including simply holding a title, seemingly confirmed their view that she wages a war against the monarchy. And most likely, she will lose in the long run.
