When it comes to merching off a brand, Meghan Markle may well go pro, because, even as much as she claims her hatred for the British Royal Family is deep-seated, she still knows how to turn its themes to her advantage. I’m talking monograms, titles, and even coat of arms.
If there’s a royal connection for the selling, you’d probably see Meghan Markle there.
I guess I understand why fans are calling her shameless for her tactics.
Did Meghan Markle Go Too Far With the Royal Cypher?
The recent royal news cycle has been a proper busy one, with Andrew and Sarah making up the headlines and Harry and Meghan doing their best to catch up.
You may have noticed that Meghan Markle has a lifestyle brand called ‘As Ever,’ and she uses her Instagram page to more or less promote it. As the Christmas season approaches – woweee!!! right? – she has decided to unveil several new items as part of her brand’s Christmas collection.
Ahead of the products’ launch on Tuesday, October 28, the Duchess, 44, took to Instagram to share a short video.
In this video, we find her working at her laptop, and on the desk we also see softly flickering candles and a blue notebook with her royal cypher embossed in gold on the cover.
If you’ve been a longtime fan, you may have noticed that the cypher – M with a crown on top – dates back to 2018. The cypher, of course, was unveiled ahead of her wedding to Britain’s Prince Harry.
So it’s been five years since she and Harry decided to walk away, but I guess leaving behind royal duties does not exactly equate to leaving behind royal titles.
Fans Mock Meghan Markle For Cashing In On Her Royal Connections
Needless to say, it didn’t take long for fans to spot the monogram and connect it to a desire to use royalty to boost interest in her range.
“Another example of Meghan putting her royal cypher on pretty much anything, you can see it on her notebook in the latest Instagram story,” an X user wrote.
“I rather think that was the point. Pretty difficult to sell a candle for that price if it’s not royal,” another insisted.
Talking about the price of the candles, one goes for $64. The big bang? Signature Candle No. 519 that reminds her of her wedding to Prince Harry.
Another commented, “Because she knows that without it it’s just a stupid candle, and the only promotion she can offer is to include something royal somewhere on the screen.”
Do you agree? Was it just to boost the prestige of her business, and of course grab some headlines in the process, or is there something more to it?
