Justice has finally come for baby Emmanuel Haro, who was murdered by his father, Jake Haro. The case isn’t over yet, as Rebecca Haro isn’t as far along in her legal dealings. But at least Jake will be safely behind bars and can’t hurt another child any time soon. Read on for the sentencing details.
Public Anger Was High
On NewsNation Monday night, contributor Jesse Weber and former Riverside County, California, Deputy District Attorney Kim DeGonia discussed the case. Of interest, is the sentence handed down to Jake Haro for the murder of his seven-month-old son.

There was already public anger that previous cases against Haro had allowed him to stay out of prison. When he finally pleaded guilty, many believed he did so for a favorable deal. At one stage, he allegedly claimed he had accidentally rolled over and killed his baby, yet the body has never been found.
The Strange Case Of Rebecca
Elizabeth Vargas reminded viewers that it seems strange Jake Haro finally entered a guilty plea, but his wife Rebecca Haro sticks to her original story of a kidnapping. Perhaps Jake will end up testifying against his wife.
Kim felt that it might be a case of Rebecca trying to cover up for her husband, and she believes that Emmanuel’s mom is saying a “lot less” than what she really knows.
The Sentence
It will make many true crime followers happy to hear that Jake Haro will serve at least 25 years in prison. However, Jesse felt that Jake should have been sentenced to jail in 2023 after beating up another baby. Instead, the judge let him go free, directly resulting in the death of Emmanuel.
But the good news is, that from that old sentence, six years was added to the 25 years. Therefore, he hopes that the minimum time Jake will serve will be “31 years.” Notably, authorities said that this “was a case of prolonged child abuse.”
True Crime Followers React
In the comments section, which filled up fast, one viewer wrote, “Should have never been out after abusing his infant daughter!”
Others felt that even 25 years wasn’t enough. Here are some other responses from the discussion area:
- Wow. 25 years for snuffing one life out and making another child wish she’d been. Not enough.
- I can only hope he meets prisoners that despise these type crimes…
- Remember when murder, especially of a child was life?
- She doesn’t care about her kids! Staying with someone and letting him abuse her children. Sickening, disgusting, cold, evil. Both parents.
