Royal Family News: Prince Harry Lands New Job

Prince Harry is now trying to assimilate into the life of Californians, and that is by getting a job at a Silicon Valley startup BetterUp, a company that focuses on mental wellness. He will be working as BetterUp’s chief impact officer, according to the company. A Spokesperson for Harry has confirmed the news.

Prince Harry has been known for his battle with mental health issues in the past, so it makes sense that he would not only want to have this role, but that he would get it. The new role would be the latest title that Prince Harry would add to his résumé after stepping down as a senior royal last year.

Prince Harry’s New Role

According to Prince Harry, BetterUp is an app that he has been using for some time and it’s helped him to restructure his mindset to become more positive. “I was matched with my coach who, quite frankly, is truly awesome and has always given me sound advice and a fresh perspective, which is so valuable,” the Duke of Sussex said about the wellness app.

Harry’s new role will see him making strategic decisions to build the brand and develop the company both internally and externally. He will also advocate publicly on topics relating to mental health. The company’s website has listed him as part of its leadership team, describing him as a “humanitarian, military veteran, mental wellness advocate, and environmentalist.”

The new role is coming a few weeks after Prince Harry and Meghan’s highly publicized interview that saw them explaining why they stepped down from their duties as senior royals and how life as royals took a hit on their mental health. As for how much the Duke of Sussex will earn from his new position, the company declined to disclose the figures.

According to the CEO Alexi Robichaux, who met Harry sometime last year through a mutual friend, “it’s a meaningful and meaty role.”

Prince Harry on Working at BetterUp

In a blog post published on the app’s website, Harry wrote, “I firmly believe that focusing on and prioritizing our mental fitness unlocks potential and opportunity that we never knew we had inside of us. As the Royal Marine Commandos say, ‘it’s a state of mind.’ We all have it in us.

Being attuned with your mind, and having a support structure around you, are critical to finding your own version of peak performance. What I’ve learned in my own life is the power of transforming pain into purpose.” He further assured that as BetterUp’s first Chief Impact Officer, he would lift up critical dialogues surrounding mental health, build supportive and compassionate communities, and foster an environment for honest and vulnerable conversations. He said that his hope in joining the company is to help people develop their inner strength, resilience and confidence.

“This is about acknowledging that it isn’t so much what is wrong with us, but more about what has happened to us over the course of life,” he said, also adding that societal barriers, financial difficulty or stigma cause so many people to not focus on their mental health until it becomes so hard that they’re forced to. “I want us to move away from the idea that you have to feel broken before reaching out for help.”

It’s another big job that the Duke of Sussex has taken after leaving the Royal Family, adding it to their Spotify and Netflix deals, made through their Archewell studio, a production company founded by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
