Brytni Sarpy is moving on to another chapter of her daytime soap career, playing a new character on the Young and the Restless (Y&R). We’ve known Brytni for portraying Valerie Spencer on General Hospital (GH) over the past four years. Now, we’ll be seeing her as Elena Dawson on Y&R.
In an interview with Soap Opera Digest, Sarpy shared her thoughts about her move to Y&R. She also opened up about leaving her character Valerie on GH.
In general, Sarpy is having an exciting experience in her new job.
“I thought I would have a lot of nerves, but I think because it’s such a familiar world to me, and for the most part, things are the same but different with how the environment is, it was a nice experience,” she shared about her first day at the set of the Young and the Restless.
She added that knowing a couple of people on Y&R and seeing them on her first day of filming helped her feel comfortable. “It was really welcoming and nice to see people I already knew.”
Young And The Restless News – A Bittersweet General Hospital Exit
On one hand, while she has appeared less and less as Valerie on General Hospital, Sarpy shared that it is bittersweet to exit the soap. She surely has invested much of herself on building up the character since she joined in 2015.
She also teased that there’s probably more to come for Valerie, although she did not have enough time to finish out the character because she started filming Y&R as soon as she booked it.
“Valerie’s relationship with Kristina was developing and who knows what would’ve happened with Chase,” she teased.
Young And The Restless News – Sarpy Hopes They Don’t Recast Valerie
Should GH decides to recast Valerie, Sarpy confessed that she would be “a little bummed about it.”
“As an actress, you create a role and it’s really hard to see someone step in those shoes. But I would be bummed, in all honesty,” she admitted.
Going back to her new role, the details are still being kept under wraps. Who could Elena be? Some speculations suggest that she could be a love interest for Devon (Bryton James) or Nate (Brooks Darnell). Sarpy revealed that Elena is in the medical field, so being Nate’s love interest is more likely.

“What I’ve read from the scenes so far, she’s very outspoken and has a mind of her own. She definitely is today’s woman,” Sarpy said.
Sarpy debuts as Elena Dawson on March 19.
