Coronation Street News: Kym Marsh Quits The Soap

Coronation Street News: Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh)

Say it isn’t so! It looks like it is an end of an era for this British soap star. Actress Kym Marsh has just announced that she is leaving Coronation Street after a 13-year run. The brunette beauty insists that it was a very difficult decision to make, especially since she’s spent so many years playing Michelle Connor on the highly-rated ITV soap.

According to the Manchester Evening News, Marsh says that she is leaving the soap world behind because she is looking to pursue other opportunities in the entertainment industry. The actress first stepped onto the scene back in 2006.

Coronation Street – Marsh Hopes To Explore Other Opportunities

Marsh said in a statement to her fans: “When I was lucky enough to be offered four episodes on Coronation Street I could never in my wildest dreams have thought I’d be here 13 years later. It’s been an incredibly difficult decision but it feels like the right time for me to take a break from the show and explore some other roles.”

While there is on doubt that fans are going to miss seeing Marsh in Weatherfield, the actress says there’s no reason to worry, as she will be back in one way or another. In other words, there are no plans to kill off her character, thankfully.

Coronation Street executive producer Ian MacLeod has even said that Marsh has done an excellent job with the character and hopes to see her again in front of the canvas real soon.

Coronation Street – Marsh Hasn’t Ruled Out A Possible Return

“But this isn’t the last you’ve heard of Michelle Connor, she’ll be back! I can’t wait to see what the writers have in store for the future,” Marsh added.
