The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Sharon Holding Her Own – Character Rebuild Has Fans Rejoicing

A few months have passed since Dylan (Steve Burton) entered the Witness Protection Program on ‘The Young and the Restless’. Sharon (Sharon Case) hasn’t fallen apart, sought out numerous males for solace, gone on a crime spree, seen visions of Cassie (Camryn Grimes) or done any number of other erratic things. Yes, Sharon’s strength has been evidenced and fans of the character as well as of the actor herself are rejoicing.

Knock on wood, or a simulation. Viewers would not be suspicious to have just done what was suggested in the preceding sentence. Instead, they would purely be considering the history of the soapy world in general and how this specific character has been written for years. Viewers are still holding their breath in hopes that the rebuild of Sharon is real and will continue.

Case can easily be ranked with the best actors to join the cast since she made her debut in 1994. The destruction of ‘Shick’, which occurred after Cassie’s stunning death became the point where Sharon was written off the rails. While she occasionally regained her footing, various writing staffs played to the more cliched elements of Sharon’s proposed bipolar disorder.

Many soapy writers have drilled into mental health conditions, using that as cover to allow enduring characters to commit wild acts across many years. In this instance Case masterfully handled all scripts she’s been given since the last decade. Identical to any solid movie actor who works with B-level material, Case demonstrated in every instance that she was worth watching.

Fan support for Sharon has evolved from a savvy group of Case supporters. Their acumen enabled other viewers and newer fans to interpret what her character was doing through a more refined lens. That’s why Sally Sussman and her team are being cheered as 2017 plays out.

Placing Sharon into the Crimson Lights’ setting, saying that she’s enrolled in college classes and allowing Nick (Joshua Morrow) to lean on her in recent months represents a triple play. Reestablishing Case’s character as a normal human being helps restore hardcore fan’s faith in the future of Y&R. Legacy characters, just like the audience, deserve respect.
