'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Sharon Not To Blame This Time – Kevin Left Paul's Office Unsecured

Why did Kevin (Greg Rikaart) leave Paul’s (Doug Davidson) office unsecured on ‘The Young and the Restless’? The old joke about stupidity being intentionally written into B-rated horror movies was seen on Y&R this week, as Kevin enabled Sharon (Sharon Case) to have a highly unlikely opportunity to attempt contact with her husband. Sharon subsequently put Dylan’s (Steve Burton) cover and more importantly, his life in jeopardy.

The victims in various horror flicks often have opportunities to avoid danger by simply using common sense. So the idea that Kevin would leave the door to the chief of police’s office unsecured after Sharon was just meeting with him in that same room was ridiculous. Clearly this was done to further Dylan’s storyline, as Burton’s on-screen swan song gets set to play out this month.

Sharon has been bewitched by thoughts of Dylan’s imminent peril. So she returned to the Genoa City Police Department and pleaded with Kevin one more time. His inability to allay Sharon’s fears led to her alone time in Paul’s office, whereby she rustled through various items and then opened the top drawer of his desk.

Paul’s cell phone was not only inside, but also unlocked. Sharon thumbed Dylan’s name into his contact list and dialed his number. There appeared to be a hole in that plot point, as recent dialogue had Kevin say that Dylan was using burner phones. So Paul wouldn’t have had that number in his saved contacts and also wasn’t called by Dylan, that viewers were aware of.

Evidence now exists on Paul’s phone of an outbound call to Dylan’s device as of mid-January. Simple deduction will place Sharon at the scene of that unauthorized connection.

The coming climax to Dylan’s arc seems almost certain to end in this character’s death, perceived demise or disappearance. If no other contact between the GCPD and Dylan takes place, or vice versa, viewers know who will be blamed. However, Kevin was responsible for protecting police property, not Sharon.
