‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Devon Gets What He Asked For – Hilary Serious About Divorce

Hilary (Mishael Morgan) is serious on ‘The Young and the Restless’. She was totally devastated after Devon’s (Bryton James) car crash, which caused her to adjust her view of reality. Now, after being asked to walk away, she’s presented Mr. Hamilton with divorce papers that were prepared with her instructions with no caveats.

The evolving transformation of Morgan’s character is refreshing. Hilary was initially presented as a vengeful person. Her intent to attack Neil (Kristoff St. John) and his family, which was based upon her mother’s untimely death by alcohol poisoning, served as an interesting introduction.

Hilary’s subsequent ingratiation into Genoa City life was also understandable, based on soap standards. But limiting her growth since Dr. Simon Neville (Michael E. Knight) masterfully pulled his patient out of her comatose state hasn’t been overly engaging.

‘Hevon’s’ extended breakup, which this appears to be, is realistic. Of course there are real world couples who split on a dime and never see each other’s filthy faces again. (The word filthy was added in the last sentence for emotional emphasis, which reflective splitters surely understand.) In this instance, Hilary and Devon actually do love each other. The dysfunctional nature of their relationship is a separate matter to be dealt with and possibly, not overcome.

Now that he’s read Hilary’s selfless release decree, questions must exist in Devon’s mind. Is the right decision being made, or is he using his wife’s admitted bad behavior as an excuse to paper over his own marked walls?

If the lady leaves and basically doesn’t take him for all he’s worth, Devon can’t possibly conclude that she’s playing the long game. There’s no reason for her to take this type of gamble, as any legal authority would likely award her millions in a divorce proceeding.

Hilary’s out-of-character actions have created a conundrum. Everything Devon came to believe about his wife could be true and his request for a divorce could also have been the right course to pursue at the time. But would taking the actual exit lane lead him away from a soul mate who deserves further consideration?
