Days Of Our Lives Comings And Goings: Drake Hogestyn Returns To DOOL

“Days of Our Lives,” star Drake Hogestyn (John Black) will be back on screen April 3 during a sequence filmed with Deirdre Hall (Marlena Evans). It’s been six months since fans have seen John in action.

The sequence with John’s beloved wife, “Doc” will be a fantasy scene.

Hogestyn was injured on set last May. Last September, then-head writer Dena Higley tweeted, “Drake in studio today. Great that he’s back.”

It was first reported that the actor fell at his home, but according to Hogestyn’s legal team, the actor was injured filming a show stunt involving an improperly prepared prop door. The actor was said to have been hospitalized with a head injury, followed by a convalescence at home.

Hogestyn debuted on the 51-year young sudser in 1986. Over time he’s been in involved in some pretty fantastical plots in the little town of Salem. His PI character learned not too long ago that he had a heretofore unknown son, and the two of them were forced to battle back against his presumed dead, evil, cult leader father.

Psychiatrist Marlena has been busy but alone lately, so no doubt her fantasy sequence comes at a time when she’s missing John’s comfort and reassuring presence.

Her son Eric (Greg Vaughan) just got sprung from prison, having done time for a DUI murder. Marlena had to go all out in order to convince the ex-priest to return to the land of the living rather than shelter in place as a hermit.

Once that drama was over, John’s son Brady (Eric Martsolf) dropped a bomb on her when he told Doc that he’s helping fugitive kidnapper Nicole (Arianne Zucker) hide outside the country.

What’s up next for John and Marlena? They will no doubt pick up where they left off as one of the show’s longstanding, long-suffering couples.

Will John hook back up with his son and their fledgling PI business? That remains to be seen, but whatever adventures John Black gets up to, it will be good to see Hogestyn back where he belongs!
