‘The Young and the Restless’ Spoilers: Steve Burton Ending Solid Y&R Run – Dylan McAvoy Became Well-Liked Character

'The Young and the Restless' Spoilers: Steve Burton Ending Solid Y&R Run – Dylan McAvoy Became Well-Liked CharacterViewers may have been surprised to learn that Steve Burton (Dylan McAvoy) announced via his Twitter account that he’s leaving the ‘The Young and the Restless’. The veteran daytime actor opted not to renew his contract and will complete filming in December. How that decision affects current storylines remains to be seen. But, what’s clear is that this solid actor took the scripts he was given and created a likeable character during his run.

Burton joined the cast of Y&R in January 2013 after working for over twenty years as Jason Morgan on ‘General Hospital’. His choice to leave that iconic ABC steamer resulted in Billy Miller, who formerly played Billy Abbott on Y&R, taking his fictional spot in Port Charles. Dylan quickly became and remained a key character on CBS’ top-rated daytime show.

Dylan initially believed that Ian Ward (Ray Wise) was his father. But, his true genetic mother, Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), later confirmed that Paul (Doug Davidson) was his dad. Paul eventually hired Dylan as a GC Police Department detective.

Dylan arrived in Genoa City after his one-time girlfriend, Avery (Jessica Collins) was informed that he’d died in battle. His appearance in Wisconsin created quite a shock, but his battle field injury became Dylan’s backstory. That super couple, didn’t enjoy a lasting romantic reunion, as Nick (Joshua Morrow) tugged at Avery’s heart.

Collins’ character, who had lost his baby prematurely many years ago, basically served as a vehicle to introduce Burton into the show. Plus, as viewers recall, vexing issues connected to Avery’s ex-husband, Joe (Scott Elrod) caused repeated problems for Dylan. In the end, Joe was sentenced to prison for extorting money from Devon (Bryton James) and trying to frame Cane (Daniel Goddard).

Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) became Dylan’s next love interest. This pairing wasn’t together for long, as Adam (then played by Michael Muhney) was always looming. However, Dylan and Chelsea were briefly married and Connor (Gunner and Ryder Gadbois) was born. Post traumatic stress disorder subsequently caused Dylan to flashback to the war and he kidnapped Connor, who turned out to be Adam’s child.

After first being friends, Sharon (Sharon Case) and Dylan developed a deeper relationship and were eventually married. The couple came to believe that Sharon was pregnant and delivered their son Sully, who was named in honor of a military buddy Dylan saw die on the battle field. However, Y&R fans knew that Sharon was never pregnant and that Sully is actually Christian. That storyline seems likely reach its climax as Burton films his final scenes in a few months.
