“General Hospital” (GH) spoilers reveal that Finola Hughes (Anna) will not be joining her fellow Daytime Emmy nominees at the traditional Leading Ladies lunch. Hopefully, her fellow ladies will not have hard feelings about the snub, however, because it is for a good reason. According to Soaps In Depth, Hughes was invited to shadow a director on Freeform’s The Fosters.
According to the online article, Hughes has always been eager to pursue directing opportunities and carries an ambition to direct television. She is quoted reflecting fondly on the experience stating, “This was my second time shadowing, and it was amazing.”
Hughes has most recently directed Cypress Bayou, a supernatural indie series, which is looking for a home. She has also directed a short film and been slated to direct in other projects that are yet to come to fruition.
Hughes is not the only Port Charles leading lady that has a passion for directing; Kimberly McCullough, the actress that plays the beautiful Robin Scorpio, is also pursuing her directing career. Most notably, McCullough has worked with the show Pretty Little Liars and is currently working on directing her second episode.
A passion to work behind the camera rather than in front of it is more common than one may think in the Daytime world. In fact, other female soap stars turned directors include The Bold and the Beautiful actresses: Heather Tom (Katie) and Susan Flannery (ex-Stephanie), as well as, Days of Our Lives’ own Alison Sweeney (ex-Sami).
Don’t worry GH fans, the Soaps In Depth article did not mention a leave of absence for our beloved Anna so it should be safe to assume her extracurricular directing jobs have not begun to interfere with her time in Port Charles.
