‘Days of Our Lives’ POLL: Can Hope Be Redeemed After Gunning Down Stefano – VOTE!

Many “Days of Our Lives” fans were shocked when Hope (Kristian Alfonso) gunned down Stefano (Joseph Mascolo) in his study. They were even more shocked when Hope covered it up with Rafe’s (Galen Gering) help. Roman (Josh Taylor) is willing to let Andre (Thaao Penghlis) take the fall, but a lot of DOOL viewers are miffed that Hope is getting off scot-free – at least for now.

Of course, Hope is still being tormented by flashbacks and that means we could see consequences down the road. Nevertheless, would punishment even be enough to redeem Hope? “Days” fans are somewhat divided on this issue. Some seem to think that Hope is too far gone. She’s a dirty cop who murdered an elderly man in a wheelchair. That’s pretty low.

We can’t forget about how Hope tortured Dr. Malcolm (Adam Leadbeater) either. This is certainly not the Hope we all knew and loved. On the other hand, is Hope really any worse than most Salemites? Jack (Matthew Ashford) was a rapist and he’s still a fan favorite. Sami (Alison Sweeney) once shot EJ (James Scott) in the head and nobody cares anymore.

Plus, Stefano clearly goaded Hope into the shooting. It was obvious that Stefano wanted to go out with a bang. As for Hope, we need to remember everything she went through. Hope was nearly killed by Aiden (Daniel Cosgrove) on her wedding night. She was racked with guilt when she learned she was wrong about Bo (Peter Reckell) abandoning his family. Then, Hope had to face losing her love all over again. Bo was diagnosed with a brain tumor and died in Hope’s arms.

Bottom line, Hope was driven to her breaking point and why wouldn’t she suspect Stefano? He tormented Hope’s family for years and he wasn’t particularly convincing when he claimed he didn’t do it. Was it wrong for Hope to murder Stefano? Absolutely, but we have to keep things in perspective. This is the crime-ridden town of Salem after all. Justice is a bit different in the soap world.

“Days of Our Lives” just celebrated its 50th anniversary and you don’t last that long without giving characters a pass on a few transgressions. There’s a good chance the sting of losing a fantastic villain like Stefano is influencing everyone’s view of Hope at the moment. We’ll all miss Stefano and his wicked ways.

As the sands keep running through that hourglass, will “Days” fans learn to forgive? Could a storyline shift help Hope regain some respect?
