'Days Of Our Lives' Interview: Thaao Penghlis Dishes On Andre DiMera, His New Books, Plus Meeting DOOL FansDays of Our Lives” Thaao Penghlis (Tony/Andre’ DiMera) recently did a blogtalk radio spot with Laurie Baker in which he talks about his books, Places: The Journey of My Days, My Lives; and his cook book, Seducing Celebrities: One Meal at a Time.

In the interview with Laurie, Thaao talks about his roles of Tony DiMera and now of Andre’ DiMera and it came to light that Andre’ is really the role with a longer history, not Tony. There was even chatter of/about Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo) and his demise.

Thaao spoke with high regard, and of sadness, of his final scenes with Mascolo… saying that, “he was more bombastic than Brando (in his role in The Godfather)” It came to light also during the interview that Tony had actually been onscreen some six months before Mascolo came in as Stefano.

When it came to speaking of the “Days of Our Lives” book tour, in conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of Days, one could still hear the amazement in his tone when speaking of the 11,000 people waiting in the cold at the Pigeon Forge book signing… Thaao felt it was important to “go out and take a walk” among those who had come early and stood in the cold to get a signed book from the group of actors. He made the day for many that day… in spite of his arriving three days late after being caught in the hurricane in Mexico.

His book, Places is a captivating memoir and travel diary of places he’s traveled to and seen and wanting to go back to, “but don’t know when it will be safe to go back.” This book is from Padero Press and Open Road, and is available on Amazon and Barnes & Noble booksites.

His second book, “Seducing Celebrities: One Meal at a Time” was a labor of love for this chef and master storyteller. The writing is witty, heart-felt, rich with deep musings, fascinating and inspiring. The recipes are healthy and tasty. It’s a delightful book – perfect for any food lover, book lover, and celebrity lover. Some of the celebrities he mentioned were: Telly Savalas, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor, Joan Rivers, and many others.

The wonderful actress Doris Roberts wrote a letter about her meal with Thaao. It stated, “An extraordinary cook who takes pleasure in inviting his friends to his home for an evening of great food, wine and interesting conversation. The table is so beautiful that you hate to sit down to mess it up. The food that he cooks takes time, knowledge, and thoughtfulness, and he spends hours preparing it.  Did I mention the aroma that greets you when you walk into his house?”
