‘The Bold And The Beautiful’ (B&B) POLL: Was Maya Wrong To Ask Nicole To Be Her Baby’s Surrogate Mother? VOTE!

In this ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ spoiler, we look at Maya Avant’s [Karla Mosley] request for Nicole Avant [Reign Edwards] to donate eggs and serve as a surrogate for Maya and Rick Forrester [Jacob Young] to have a child. Since Maya doesn’t have eggs or a uterus, it’s true she can’t provide Rick with a biological child, but Nicole’s biology is the next-best thing, so it seems like a logical option to want Nicole to step up.

And Nicole definitely did step up in a big way – she told her sister that she would provide eggs and a womb for their baby, but was it wrong of Maya to ask Nicole for this life-changing imposition? Let’s consider what Nicole is sacrificing by agreeing to carry Maya and Rick’s child. First, let’s not forget that Nicole is very young. Most young women do not want to be pregnant (unless they’re angling for a stint on Teen Mom), so that’s a huge consideration.

Pregnancy will impact her health and possibly put her at risk since every pregnancy has the potential to be life-threatening. Plus if there are complications, it could cost Nicole the chance to carry a child of her own later in life. This is major. Plus, Nicole has just started an internship at Forrester Creations and being pregnant doesn’t seem like it would lend itself well to success in her first job opportunity. Aren’t interns usually run ragged and paid little? That doesn’t seem conducive to a low-stress pregnancy.

There’s also Nicole’s personal life to consider. She’s newly in a relationship with Zende Forrester Dominguez [Rome Flynn] and we know Zende is not loving the idea of his GF getting knocked up by her sister’s husband. In a way, you can’t blame Zende since he’s adopted and the notion that adoption is somehow “lesser” than having a biological child is probably offensive to him. Zende encouraged Nicole to do what was right for her if that meant refusing to either donate eggs or serve as surrogate.

And Zende is just one personal concern – there’s also the Avant clan to consider. Vivienne Avant [Anna Maria Horsford] was generally accepting at Maya’s wedding and decided not to leave with her husband after he called the event a freak show and Maya kicked him out. But obviously, Vivienne is still struggling to accept this situation and may not be nearly as accepting of Nicole carrying Rick and Maya’s child. And as for Julius Avant [Obba Babatunde], where to start…

Julius was a real jerk at Maya’s wedding then walked out. If he can’t accept Maya and Rick’s marriage – and likely can’t accept Maya for who she really is at all, why would he accept the idea of Nicole giving them a child? Don’t look for Julius to take this well – he might even try and talk Nicole out of it since he and Vivienne are now living in LA and can apply direct pressure that Nicole can’t avoid. Would Nicole risk totally alienating her parents to help Maya?

Of course, Nicole told Maya that she will help her sister out, but the whole surrogacy issue is further complicated here by the eggs being Nicole’s. That means she’s not just carrying a child for Maya and Rick – she’s breeding a child for Maya and Rick. Biologically, the child would be Nicole and Rick’s baby. So essentially, Maya is asking Nicole to gestate and bear a biological child then hand it over. That seems terribly unfair and a lot for a young woman to handle.

And here’s one last question to consider… What if Nicole went through the entire surrogacy process only to decide at the end not to give the baby to Maya? She could grow so attached to her bio-baby that she can’t bear to hand it to her sister/brother. Of course, Rick would still have parental rights, but Maya would not. And this scenario is something that Julius might try to talk her into since he’s broke and knows that Rick would have to pay big bucks in child support. It could happen.
