'General Hospital' (GH) News: John Stamos New Role - Jimmy Martino on New Fox Comedy, 'Grandfathered'

“General Hospital” (GH) alum John Stamos has gone back to comedy and his new Fox comedy “Grandfathered” is a hit. Stamos portrayed Blackie Parrish on “GH” from 1982 until 1984 and went on to star in the hit comedy “Full House.” The actor has another hit on his hands.

“Grandfathered” follows quintessential bachelor Jimmy Martino as he tries to regain his foothold in the world of New York restaurants. His restaurant – Jimmy’s – used to be the hottest one in town and it’s losing its standing to a brand new place where all the celebrities want to hang out. In the midst of trying to negotiate having Deion Sanders dine at Jimmy’s rather than another – Jimmy gets hit with the fact that he has a grown son – and a granddaughter – he never knew about.

Gerald (Josh Peck) shows up one night at Jimmy’s restaurant and announces that he is the bachelor’s son. For a guy who didn’t know he had a son Jimmy adapts fairly quickly and takes on the role of father. But the role he is best at is grandfather to little Edie, Gerald’s daughter. One night – not long after meeting Gerald and confronting his ex-girlfriend Sara (Paget Brewster) – Jimmy is left to babysit when his son  finds himself going on a date with the Edie’s mom Vanessa (Christina Milan).

“Grandfathered” is John Stamos doing what he does best – interacting with children and having fun. The Fox comedy is the must see show of the new television season. He may have left “General Hospital” behind over 30 years ago but John Stamos has only gotten better with age. And “GH” fans can look forward to another of John’s projects. Netflix has ordered 13 episodes of “Fuller House” for its streaming service.

Did you tune in for the premiere episode of “Grandfathered”? What did you think? John – as Jimmy Martino – interacting with his granddaughter had to be some of the best comedy we’ve seen in a long time on television. The scene where Jimmy is trying to get Edie to sleep and he tells her to give him a kiss and she does – and he says, “Did you just kiss me?” had to remind you of John working with the Olsen twins on “Full House.” Let us know what you think in the comments section below and come back to Soap Opera Spy to get updates on what your favorite soap stars are doing now, gossip, news, rumors and news.
