SNL UK Savages Prince Harry And Meghan Markle In Royal Family Skit

Saturday Night Live UK savaged King Charles, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle this weekend, and people were there for it. Naturally, it was discussed by other channels as well. Read on for more details.

SNL UK Takes Aim At The Royals

Typical of Saturday Night Live, the cast was spot on with their interpretations of real people. But it was the dialogue that cracked up a lot of folks.

For example, in the skit, King Charles said to his wife, “Dear Camilla, nothing like a quiet Saturday in Balmoral,” adding, “Clear Scottish air. Dirty Scottish people. Bliss.”

Camilla delivered the next barb when she said, “I do so love our weekends away. No responsibilities. Just like every other day.”

After a loud knocking at the door, Charles said, “What in the devil is that racket?”

Harry And Meghan Arrive

Well, it turned out to be fictional Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, and Harry told the king, “Daddy, I’m home.”

To that, Charles responded, “Harry, what are you two doing here? This castle is for royals only.”

Of course, that was a direct hit at the recent directive issued on behalf of King Charles, specifically noting that the couple are not working royals.

Queen Camilla, on the other hand, acted graciously and embraced Meghan and Harry on the stage.

Meghan seemed delighted to be greeted so graciously, and she told Camilla that she had brought along a gift, explaining, “It’s ice. I made it myself.”

Then she said that she wouldn’t mind giving Camilla “the recipe,” before saying, “I was kind of in the kitchen.”

Prince Harry interjected with, “It’s true. She hires the best cooks.” That got a lot of laughs because viewers recalled Meghan’s Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.

And with love in mind, Harry and Meghan told each other repeatedly that they loved each other. But of course, in the SNL show, Meghan got in the last word, saying, “love you more.”

At that point, Charles went into a frenzy and demanded to know, “What do you two want?”

Well, not very much, because Meghan said, “We’re moving back to the UK and we need your help.”

Of course, that made Charles question how they managed to spend all the money from their Netflix shows.

Harry casually dismissed the payments from Netflix by saying it was “60 million,” and then asked his father how long he expected that amount of money to last.

Then Harry said, “I’m not asking for much, just a duchy or two.” 

What killed viewers of the show was the next barb directed at the prince. King Charles said, “What a waste you’ve become.” Then he added, “You’re lucky your father isn’t around to see this.”

That line brought the house down, and in the comments on YouTube, many royal family watchers described it as “totally savage.”

It certainly was savage, and when News24 chatted about it, TalkTV’s Mark Dolan discussed the claim that Buckingham Palace had exposed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for “lying” about not being warned over a letter sent by King Charles.

Commentators React To The Sketch

The conversation then turned to what Harry and Meghan might want from their return to the UK. Mark Dolan noted that despite Harry suggesting that the royals need him, “they don’t.”

Paul Murray on to say, “The timing of this was remarkable because they’ve come back to the UK and this is supposed to be Harry’s victory lap.”

Mocking him, he said, “You know, I am home. I’m the main man. I’m going to be royal again.” He then suggested that King Charles would have said, “Hold my beer.”

Both commentators felt that Harry should “keep his head down” and his mouth shut. Naturally, that led to the couple being made fun of on the SNL UK show.

As Dolan pointed out, “It’s all good when you’re laughing along, but when they’re laughing at you, it’s a world of trouble.”
