Simon Cowell Makes Unexpected Exit From America’s Got Talent

We are currently halfway through America’s Got Talent Season 21 on NBC, but in a few weeks the show is going to look very different.

Currently Terry Crews is at the helm and still hosting the show every Tuesday night.  The Season 21 judges include America’s Got Talent fan faves Simon Cowell, Mel B, Howie Mendel, and Sofia Vergara.

Simon Cowell Exits From AGT

On August 24, multiple outlets began reporting that Simon Cowell was leaving America’s Got Talent.  According to the AGT judge’s rep, Simon is taking a few weeks off this season for a “routine surgery.”

Although it hasn’t been confirmed, it’s believed that the surgery is for an injury he got during an old bicycle accident a few years ago.  Simon Cowell was actually severely injured and broke his back in five different places in 2020.

During that dark time the America’s Got Talent judge revealed in an emotional interview, “embarrassed about coming home looking about 100 years old because I couldn’t walk, and I have these metal rods in my back and these screws.”

Who Will Replace Simon Cowell

Obviously America’s Got Talent can’t carry on with only three judges while Simon is away.  People Magazine reports, “It has not yet been confirmed who will fill in for Cowell during his absence, however, guest judges are expected to do so during the brief absence.”

The good news is, Simon isn’t going to be gone for the whole season and it sounds like he will be back in time for the Season 21 Finals on NBC.

It will be interesting to see if some of the eliminations are affected by Cowell leaving for a few weeks.  There are a few contestants that Simon seems to be rooting for this season that haven’t really impressed the other judges.
