Rick Devens did very well to win Big Brother 28, but he had to cut his ally Drew Campbell to do it. Still, he’d learned from mistakes he made on Survivor in the past. Read on to find out what he had to say about it.

When Devens won the final Head of Household competition and chose Taylor Brown to join him in the Final Two, he effectively stranded Drew in third place.

Drew Hoped He’d End Up With Devens

Drew Campbell thought he was sitting pretty with deals and he hoped that he’d go right through to the end with Rick Devens. However, he ended up betrayed when Rick handed the second spot to Taylor.

According to  People, Devens felt a bit bad when he explained the situation to Drew. He said, “I love you, but I have to play to win,” before sending him to the jury.

The gamble paid off at the voting table. Devens locked up a 6-1 jury victory over Taylor to claim the $750,000 top prize.

He also got the vote from fans of Big Brother who voted him America’s Favorite Houseguest. That added another $50,000 to his total haul. Along with another $10,000 he’d won earlier in the season, he walked away with $810,000.

Learning From Past Mistakes

In an interview with Parade, Devens discussed some of his mistakes that he’d made in the past. Talking about Survivor: Edge of Extinction, he said, “I let emotion get the best of me on Season 38” when he handed back half of an immunity idol to Chris Underwood.

Devens admitted that he regrets that decision “every day” because it cost him a million dollars, adding, “This is that situation all over again.”

Gameplay Over Emotions

When weighing his final options, Devens realized he couldn’t let feelings dictate his game. He explained to the outlet, “I don’t want to hurt Drew, but we all signed up for the same game. My family is my closest alliance. I have to do what I can to bring the money home to them.”

Addressing the betrayal directly, Devens confessed, “Me sending him home is just, I mean, it’s a betrayal, man.”

However, he stood by his choice, noting, “It was the reason I think that I won the game.”
