Last week, the Prince of Wales gave fans a welcome surprise by appearing on The Graham Norton Show, alongside guests Hannah Waddingham, Cate Blanchett, and Australian conservationist Robert Irwin.
The goal was to promote the Earthshot Prize, but the prince may have, consciously or unconsciously, taken a swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Expert Weighs In On Prince William’s Flippant Response To Titles Question
Next month, Prince William will be taking off for India to host his annual environmental gala, the Earthshot Prize, but before that, he sat down on a BBC show to give us some insights into what the environmental initiative is all about.
Just a few moments after he sat down to do so, host Graham Norton asked him about the proper way to address him.
“For the purposes of chat show land, how do I refer to you?” he asked, to which William responded with, “Whatever suits.”
When Graham ultimately landed on “William,” the dad-of-three happily agreed, saying, “Yeah. William. That’s good!”
It was an interesting response, especially when you remember that his brother was just featured in a US publication, where he referred to himself as “Prince” twice.
As Prince William’s television appearance continues to fuel comparisons with Prince Harry, royal commentators have been weighing in on the brothers’ different approaches to publicity.
The Mail on Sunday Editor-at-Large Charlotte Griffiths thought this might have been a “sly” dig at the Sussexes, whose use of royal titles has frequently attracted criticism.
Griffiths pointed to the way Harry and Meghan use their titles, including references to their children’s royal status, and wondered whether William’s casual response was intended to highlight the contrast.
She also questioned whether she might be reading too much into the exchange, suggesting that it could have been a subtle dig rather than an intentional message.
Of course, Meghan Markle’s use of royal titles has already sparked controversy, particularly after gifts bearing her HRH styling attracted attention.
However, regardless of whether it was a dig or not, Griffiths observed that William seemed genuinely comfortable being addressed informally.
She felt that his relaxed response was natural rather than something he had deliberately rehearsed for the cameras.
Meanwhile, Prince William’s Graham Norton appearance has also sparked debate about the brothers’ competing public images and whether the Prince of Wales is benefiting from a more relaxed approach.
Still, there is no confirmation that William intended his remarks as a criticism of Harry or Meghan.
Annemarie’s Take
I actually liked William’s response! He seemed relaxed, comfortable, and perfectly happy to be called by his first name. I think that’s refreshing, especially when royal titles can sometimes become such a big issue.
But was he really taking a dig at Harry and Meghan? I’m not so sure. Sometimes a simple answer is just a simple answer! Then again, with these two brothers, people are always going to look for hidden messages. What do you think?
