The disappearance of Lynette Hooker in the Bahamas remains under investigation, and now her daughter, Carly publicly questioned the story told by her step-dad, Brian Hooker. True crime fans seem interested in the development so read on for more details.
Released But Investigation Continues
During a new episode of Brian Entin Investigates, journalist Brian Entin explored what could happen next in the Bahamas case. Remember, Brian Hooker was released from detention and allowed to return stateside.
Previously, Ashleigh Banfield explored the weather conditions, and the dodgy aspects of Brian’s story. Notably, he’s presumed innocent, despite skeptics thinking he told a few wild tales about Lynette Hooker falling overboard that night.
The couple had been on a boating trip near the Abaco Islands. While his story had enough holes in it to sink a boat, per Ashleigh, the prosecutors couldn’t lay charges because of a lack of evidence that anything bad happened.
But, that doesn’t mean they stopped checking it out. In a recent update, Ashleigh reported that the FBI arrived and were spotted on the yacht.
According to Entin, the United States Coast Guard confirmed there’s still an “active criminal investigation” into Lynette’s disappearance.
Carly Speaks Out
One of the biggest insights in the Sunday episode came when the daughter of Lynette Hooker explained why she remains skeptical of her stepdad’s account of what happened that night.
While Brian Hooker continued denying wrongdoing and maintains that Lynette accidentally fell overboard, her daughter believes that way too many things remain unanswered. So, she doubts the timeline and the circumstances.
The Allegations Seem Serious
Carly told Entin:
For one, he’s already made this threat two years ago that this exact thing was going to happen to her, that he would make sure this would happen to her. and he’s threatened it, I’m pretty sure, multiple times, and has done actions to her that have hurt her.

Then she talked about how it didn’t feel much like a coincidence. Because, “you said that you were going to do this and now it’s happening. So, why wouldn’t I just believe your story? I would need more answers than just believing your story at this point.”
More followed, and Carly claimed that her mom said a few years ago, that Brian Hooker allegedly tried to “choke her out.”
Accident Or Not?
Next, Brian talked about where the investigation might go next, now that Hooker returned to the US. Notably, although he’s not detained, the case is far from closed.
Brian explained that “additional details are being released at this time” and he feels that indicates it’s all “very active.” Plus, he talked about federal agents and the “processing that they’re doing on the boat, which is a crime scene.”

The case, as usual, started a big discussion among true crime followers. Actually, few people seem to believe it was a tragic accident. And tons of folks start believing Lynette Hooker’s disappearance seems suspicious.
Viewers React
Several folks praised Entin’s reporting because it’s important to keep talking about true crime even before a suspect is named and charged.
One person commented, correctly, “This case is far from over.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- I’m glad you’re still covering Lynette Hooker. Thank you.
- Pathological liars NEVER tell the truth.
- He got out of there as fast as [he] could once police released him.
- When I hear other journalists/reporters using personal invective and insinuating that their observations and opinions are likely facts, I flinch. I don’t want anything to bollix up a potential case/arrest/trial.
- I feel so sad for [Carly]. Praying for the family.
The Daughter’s Testimony
Naturally, the chatter about Brian Hooker threatening to do something nasty to Lynette is hearsay, and might not be useful as evidence. But, time will tell if the federal investigation turns up anything good enough for an arrest and indictment.
