True crime followers seem particularly interested in the disappearance of Lynette Hooker, and her husband, Brian Hooker’s version of events in the Bahamas.
The retirees from Michigan experienced a terrible event when Lynette went missing after she reportedly fell off their boat during a night out.
But, the question remains as to whether it was a tragic event or something else? Read on for more details that emerged.
Banfield In The Bahamas
Ashleigh Banfield, known for her deep dives into crimes ever since the days of 9/11, takes a huge interest in it. So much so, that she spent time in the Bahamas asking some hard questions.
If you don’t know, Brian Hooker was detained but later released. However, authorities still look into the disappearance of Lynette Hooker. Notably, it seems that some conflicting information arrived that points to something really bad possibly happening.
Rescue Expert Opens Up
During her travels, Banfield spoke with Jim Todd, a member of the Hope Town Volunteer Fire and Rescue Service. She learned that Jim was one of the first people to encounter Brian the morning after Lynette vanished. In fact, he helped Brian onto the rescue vessel and noted that the man looked “hit by a truck” or in a state of “shock.”

Initially, Jim had no reason to disbelieve that what went down was accidental. However, as the sun rose, details emerged that didn’t sit right with him. According to Ashleigh, Jim related why he became a bit suspicious. Apparently, he got Brian Hooker up on the bow of the rescue boat and asked him to explain where Lynette Hooker disappeared.
Inexplicable Aspects
Brian pointed to a spot near the channel’s final piling. Jim noted that they were only about “150 yards” from the shore at that point. Experienced at sea, Jim felt a bit skeptical of the claim that Lynette would struggle to make it to land from that distance.
Plus, Brian couldn’t seem to say if his wife was “swimming away” toward the beach or toward their yacht, the Soulmate. If she was swimming back to their boat, over “a thousand yards” away, that certainly doesn’t make sense at all.
The Green Cover-Up
Next, he talked about a green cushion they found, and at that point, Brian allegedly said to Jim, “Oh, look for the green dry bag as well.” Interestingly, previously Brian had talked about Lynette wearing a two-piece bathing suit, but others ashore saw her wearing a “light green bathing suit cover-up.”
That frustrated Jim because they found a green cushion and looked for a green bag, but Brian apparently never mentioned Lynette wearing a green cover-up.
Too Dark To See
Other news from Jim seemingly proved the original story that it was too dark to see wasn’t correct. Actually, Banfield already mentioned that in a previous video. Then, although Lynette Hooker’s daughter said her mom never drove the dinghy, Brian alleged that she did this time. Plus, he talked about rough water. Again, Jim felt a bit skeptical, noting that:
If they left the dock around 6:38 p.m., the sun would have been high.
Additionally, Jim said it’s “total daylight” at that hour and you simply wouldn’t “lose sight of someone” in the water.
Why Did Lynette Drive?
Jim also found it odd that Brian let Lynette drive the dinghy in allegedly rough seas. Jim noted that a stronger person, a former “Marine,” would normally take the tiller if things were getting “hairy.” If she really was at the helm, it suggests the water was “very safe,” which makes her disappearance even more of a head-scratcher.
Naturally, the inconsistencies made true crime followers suspect that the Bahamas cops were right to think some sort of crime happened. And the “Marine” news shocked folks. But, he did verify that it was windy and the weather was changing.
One of them opined in the comments, “He is a MARINE and did not jump in the sea to rescue his wife, in 6 feet water!!!! Such a big guy?”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- He is a MARINE!!? What happened to NEVER LEAVE A MAN BEHIND!!!! First thing he should’ve did was jump out the boat to try to save her!
- He admitted they were drinking all day and weren’t wearing life jackets and that he recklessly chose to operate that dinghy in 3 feet of chop with his wife aboard. He is a negligent captain responsible for loss of life. Lock him up and tell him the key floated away with his wife.
- This is going to be a hard case to prove. He was smart enough to make sure there were no cameras or witnesses.
