Law & Order SVU Season 28 Premiere Date: New Episodes Coming To NBC Soon!

It wouldn’t be Fall without all new episodes of Law & Order SVU airing on NBC every Thursday night.

NBC just unveiled their Fall 2026 TV schedule and SVU’s new premiere date.  Fan fave Olivia Benson and the gang will be back in October and we have all the details!

Law & Order SVU Returns

There was never a doubt of “IF” Law & Order SVU would return, but more so when.  In fact, the primetime hit was renewed for TWO seasons.

The Season 27 finale aired in May 2026 with the final episode “Monster” bringing in big ratings for the tried and true series.  As predicted, Stabler, Benson, and the gang will be back this Fall.

NBC released their official Fall 2026 TV schedule this week.  The Season 28 premiere will air on Thursday October 8 at 9:00 PM.

This year SVU will be paired up with the original Law & Order mothership.  Following the SVU premiere on October 8th, Law & Order Season 26 will premiere with all new episodes.

Law & Order SVU Season 28 Cast

So far there’s no reason to believe any of our favorite SVU characters are going anywhere.  Season 28 will reportedly pick up right where we left off after the Spring finale.

According to Law & Order SVU spoilers, Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) will be back at the helm.  Dominick “Sonny” Carisi (Peter Scanavino), Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish), and Fin Tutuola  (Ice-T) will also all be back this Fall.

There was some speculation that this season Olivia Benson might retire from her role as Captain in Season 28.

Viewers can expect to see more of the power struggle going on behind the scenes with Benson and Tynan when the series returns to NBC this fall.

We don’t see Mariska Hargitay retiring anytime soon or SVU surviving without her.  So, it’s safe to assume Olivia isn’t leaving the force any time soon.
