The disappearance of Australian child, Gus Lamont, 4, in September last year received several updates recently. The latest one involved a grandparent, Josie Murray. Read on for more about the true crime development.

The Search Became A Crime Case

By now, you probably know that the desperate and extensive search for Gus on the remote sheep station ended and the trail seemed to go dead for a while. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the Australian police investigated other angles. Later, the news arrived that the missing person case ended up elevated to that of a serious true crime.

According to the police, some family members gave conflicting information, and then they stopped cooperating. Obviously, the response by the grandparents was all about how they did, indeed, cooperate. Notably, the police statement ruled out the parents of Gus Lamont.

Breaking Developments

On Monday this week, more news broke and one of the grandparents ended up arrested. According to the recent update by 9 News Australia, the grandparent under arrest turned out to be Josie Murray. To avoid confusion, Josie, previously known as Robert, switched gender preferences.

The 75-year-old was taken into custody on a “firearms offense” involving an unregistered handgun found during a property search. However, the arrest wasn’t directly linked to the missing boy. At least, not that anyone suggested it just yet.

True crime enthusiasts previously heard that there’s a possibility that Gus Lamont might have died accidentally, which makes folks go ‘Hmmm!’

Back To Searching The Outback Homestead

Once again, detectives from Task Force Horizon meticulously searched the Oak Park Station. It’s also known that amid the original search, investigators looked at a third option apart from wandering off or an abduction. Potentially, it seems they dig deep into the possibility of foul play.

In Shannon Murray footage, the other grandmother assisted police during their latest sweep of the shearing sheds and paddocks. But, perhaps separating the two grandparents could also be a way of corroborating stories. Previously, the police seized a vehicle, a motorbike, and digital devices.

With comments often disabled on mainstream reports, smaller blogs and podcasts allow them, so people were able to have their say. When True Crime Rocket Science shared the story, one follower penned, “What really gets me is the arrogance of this grandparent. Like their life is so much more important than poor Gus.”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • I don’t trust that grandmother one bit!
  • The police are clearly applying pressure to get someone to crack.
  • That poor little boy, the truth needs to come out now.
  • It’s so sad that this has turned into a true crime investigation instead of a rescue.
