Angelynn Mock, formerly a news anchor on Fox and elsewhere, pleaded guilty to murdering her mom, Anita Avers, in Wichita, Kansas, and was sentenced to life in prison.

Not Competent

When we last reported on Angelynn Mock in January, the former news anchor had been found incompetent to stand trial for the murder of her 80-year-old mother in October, 2025.

Now, nine months later, she’s going to prison and won’t get parole for at least 25 years, per the New York Post.

Later She Was Ruled Fit

In July, KWCH reported that a Sedgwick County District Court judge reversed the earlier ruling and found Mock competent to stand trial.

Back in January, the hearing revealed that Angelynn Mock was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and relatives testified that she also struggled with bipolar disorder.

Pleading Guilty

She was sent to Larned State Hospital for competency treatment, and later she appeared in court again. In August this year, Mock pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

The New York Post reminded readers that Angelynn Mock described her mother as “the devil.” She was found outside the home covered in blood and ranting.

The outleat also sad that Angelynn lost it after she went to speak to her mother about a new job, and claimed her mother was busy sharpening knives.

She said that her mom attacked her, and she “had to kill her,” claiming “she wasn’t going to stop.”

Judge Jeffrey Goering sentenced her to life in prison, but she also got credit with 339 days already served behind bars.

Viewers React

When Law&Crime Trials shared the sentencing video on YouTube, true crime followers weighed in with their thoughts.

One person wrote, “My mother was a stubborn, cranky old woman, full of negativity, but I would never think of harming her.”

Here are a few more responses from the discussion:

  • “The impact statements were heartbreaking! The victim sounded like an incredible woman!”
  • “She was a news reporter here in St. Louis, MO. Actually, very put together, intelligent and extremely positive. It is unbelievable what mental health problems can do.”
  • “I hate that the family has to clean up the mess that death leaves behind. They should just hire someone to do it. Stabbing your mother to death is just the work of the devil.”
  • “What a coward. She couldn’t even address her family and apologize for what she did despite admitting to doing it. Absolutely disgrace. (sic)”
  • “There’s a level of immense public shame over these family annihilations and those who commit them. AS there should be.”
