Elena Katherine Moore Disappearance: Friend Says She Feared For Her Life

There’s a mystery surrounding Elena Katherine Moore. On  June 18, searchers found a body in a wooded area in Lexington, South Carolina.

The clothing matched what the missing 39-year-old personal trainer wore when she vanished, per Fox News.

She had last been seen on June 11. Elena left a Planet Fitness around 9:17 p.m. and walked through a nearby Publix parking lot. That was the last confirmed sighting.

The Cause Of Death

Searchers found a body a week later, but the local coroner still needs to verify the identity and determine a cause of death.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) stepped in to take over the case.

Official information is scarce. SLED released a statement confirming they were conducting a “death investigation” alongside local police and the sheriff’s department.

That was about all they gave.

Security Cam Tracking

Before the discovery, investigators tracked Moore’s last known movements through security footage.

On June 11, cameras caught her leaving Planet Fitness at 9:17 p.m. She’d spent more than two hours working out.

Then she walked through a nearby Publix parking lot. She wore an olive-green zip-up hoodie and black athletic pants.

Another piece of video told a more unsettling story.

Confusion Evident

A Ring doorbell camera captured Moore near a neighbor’s home. Some viewers felt Moore appeared confused and disoriented.

Sondra Campbell, one of Moore’s closest friends, watched the footage. She said it was deeply upsetting. Campbell also noted that Moore was panting and breathing heavily.

“Elena’s clients can tell you that’s not what she looks like in the gym when she’s even working out,” Campbell said during an interview on Brian Entin Investigates.

Around the time of that video, police took Moore to a hospital. That led to a stay at Three Rivers mental health facility.

Rumors about a mental health crisis started floating. Campbell pushed back hard on that.

She noted Moore only had a history of anxiety. Nothing more. Campbell pointed to a different explanation for her friend’s behavior.

Cracks In Composure

According to Campbell, the cracks started showing weeks earlier. The two women met for brunch on May 31 with a group of friends and clients.

Moore usually loved hosting folks. She enjoyed bringing people together. But that day, she seemed out of sorts.

“She…she wasn’t calm,” Campbell suggested. “She was kind of looking around. She kind of got up once and walked to the door and was like looking out the door.”

A Whispered Secret

When the meal ended, Campbell stood to leave and pick up her son. Moore hugged her tight. The goodbye came with an allegedly desperate, whispered warning.

“We have got to catch up one-on-one,” Moore told her. “I can’t talk right now. But it’s…I’m scared for my life. It’s a crazy…right now.”

Campbell asked what was happening. Moore replied, “You don’t even know. It’s too much right now in front of these people…”

Marriage Concerns

Moore mentioned she was staying with another friend named Jersey. That eased Campbell’s mind. Temporarily, anyway.

But the fear was real. Campbell believes it came from Moore’s marriage to her husband, Brannon Slice. According to Campbell, the relationship was far from happy.

Campbell alleged she witnessed how Slice spoke to and treated Moore behind closed doors. The couple was reportedly separating.

Campbell recalled one night they skipped an expensive concert because Moore couldn’t bear to be around him.

That’s a pricey way to avoid your spouse. According to Campbell, Slice isolated her.

“He made sure that she always knew that all you have is me,” Campbell opined.

Not Person Of Interest

Per The Hindustan Times, Lexington Police advised that Brannon Slice is not currently a person of interest in his wife’s disappearance and death.

The investigation took a stranger turn. A private investigator hired by Slice’s family went on live television.

The investigator claimed no one in the family had any worries about the marriage.

Feeling Sidelined

Campbell told Entin that the statement freaked her out. She got so angry watching that she called him directly. While he was still on the air.

“You didn’t talk to me about anything,” Campbell said. Then she explained that “he didn’t ask me if there was problems in the marriage.”

The investigator got upset with her. He deflected. “Ma’am, this is for Lexington County to, you know, have control over now.”

Campbell fired back. She noted he chose to broadcast those dismissive claims while Moore was still missing. Still alive. That didn’t sit right with her.

Current Legal Status

SLED is digging into the case now. Meanwhile, the community waits for autopsy results.

Police aren’t saying much. Friends like Campbell are left demanding answers about what truly happened in the days leading up to Moore’s disappearance.

So far, nobody’s giving them.
