Dancing with the Stars Halloween Night brought in a lot of great dances, and judging by social media responses, they didn’t want anyone to go home, especially Jenna Dewan and Tatyana Ali. Ali is safe, but Dewan had a moment that could have become a disaster. Read on for more details.
A Near Disaster
Val Chmerkovskiy was back after his one-episode suspension following his clash with Carrie Ann Inaba, and they danced the Argentine Tango, landing scores from the DWTS judges of three nines and a ten. Jenna and Val scored 37/40 and they’re safe for now.
However, as Jenna danced, folks couldn’t help but notice that she got her shoe stuck in her dress. She performed a bit of fancy footwork to get free again. Although it might have been distressing for her, she recovered very well and got Derek Hough on his feet.

TV Line confirmed that if you spotted it go down, you weren’t seeing things. The outlet wrote, “those of us who spotted Jenna hopping through some of her twirls weren’t hallucinating; her shoe briefly got caught, but she kicked her way out of the tangle admirably.”

Over on Reddit, the Dancing with the Stars Halloween episode was discussed in detail as it played out live. Not everyone noticed Jenna Dewan struggling with her shoe. But many people enjoyed her performance.
One of them wrote, “Jenna’s recovery from her stumble was impressive! It could’ve easily got to trash, but she just flicked right back into place.”
Here are a few more responses from the discussion:
- “She is a dancer and performer no doubt! The show must go on! She handled that! She is also a fighter, a hard worker and a really gracious kind person according to her cast mates. I hope she is having some fun! That goes for all of them.”
- “She recovered from that slip up so well that impressed me almost as much as the dance.”
- “My top of the night. Hate to admit it but loved to see it.”
Why were people in two minds about Jenna Dewan? Well, it’s probably not aimed at her, but at Val Chmerkovskiy, who dropped a nasty comment about Carrie Ann Inaba after she criticized Val’s wife, Jenna Johnson.
Because some fans interpreted his Will Smith reference as a joke about violence against women, many DWTS fans were disgusted.
The Double Elimination
Jenna made it through, but there was a double elimination, and Tyler Cameron from Bachelor Nation and his pro partner went home. He and Sharna Burgess scored three sevens and a five for their Viennese Waltz.
The other elimination was Jackson Olson, who performed a contemporary dance with pro Emma Slater.
