Firehouse 51 is buzzing with more than just alarms—Season 15 of Chicago Fire is introducing a series of departures, new arrivals, and major twists that might change the show’s direction.
Fire Was The First Of The One Chicago Franchise
Chicago Fire, part of the “One Chicago” franchise that also includes Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med, debuted in 2012, focusing on the firefighters and paramedics of Firehouse 51.
Chicago P.D. premiered in 2014, followed by Chicago Med in 2015, and Chicago Justice, which lasted for just one season in 2017.
Although creator Dick Wolf and the network intended for the show to be a standalone series, the firehouse concept provided a great foundation for the other series to connect through shared stories.
This idea came to him while filming the Chicago Fire pilot when he saw a police officer arrive at an accident scene before the firetruck.
“While on a metal bridge over the Chicago River in the cold, Dick said, ‘We’re going to have Chicago P.D., and we’ll create one about the hospital, and another about the court system.”
Who’s Coming Back?
As Chicago Fire enters its 15th season, changes are imminent; who’s staying, who’s leaving, what new storylines await viewers?
First, the returning cast: Taylor Kinney (Kelly Severide) and Miranda Rae Mayo (Stella Kidd) are both back, having secured new contracts in May, as reported by Deadline.
Kinney has been with the show since its inception, while Mayo became a full-time cast member in Season 5 after joining as a recurring guest in Season 4.
Also returning are David Eigenberg (Christopher Herrmann), Christian Stolte (Randall “Mouch” McHolland), Hanako Greensmith (Violet Mikami), Jocelyn Hudon (Lyla “Lizzie” Novak), Brandon Larracuente (Sal Vasquez), Tony Ferraris (Anthony Ferraris), and Harold Capp (Randy Flagler).
Who Is Coming?
Firehouse 51 will introduce a new character this season: Da’Vinchi joins as Marcus Burke, a humorous yet stubborn firefighter candidate.
His casting was revealed by Deadline in July. Additionally, the show will welcome another firefighter candidate portrayed by Matthew Daddario, known from Shadowhunters, as confirmed by Soaps.com.
It remains uncertain whether Daddario will appear in a single episode, recur, or be a series regular, making him the second Shadowhunters actor to join the cast after Alberto Rosende, aka Blake Gallo.

Who’s Leaving?
Joe Miñoso (Joe Cruz) is leaving in Season 15; he has been part of the NBC show since Season 1 as a guest star and became a series regular in Season 2. His character will receive a farewell as the storyline concludes in the upcoming season, according to Deadline.
Dermot Mulroney (Dom Pascal) is also departing from the One Chicago series; he has portrayed the battalion chief since 2024, joining in Season 13. Per Dom Pascal, he has only one episode and the character is being written off-he may be the fatality, if there is one.
What Should Fans Expect In The New Season?
Fans can anticipate the repercussions of the storage facility fire that occurred during the Season 14 finale.
The building’s collapse put several members of Firehouse 51 in serious jeopardy, and the final scene featuring Herrmann, Mouch, and Cruz’s wives left viewers on a tense cliffhanger.
With the news of Mulroney’s departure from the show, a shift in leadership at the firehouse is imminent.
Chief Pascal was last seen contemplating the future with Severide, but their discussion was cut short by an emergency call regarding the burning warehouse. Who will make it out alive from Firehouse 51 and Rescue Squad 3?
