Mystery at Blind Frog Ranch star Chad Ollinger, whose arrest for alleged murder while jailed in the Clark County Detention Center (CCDC)  got an update this week. Read on to find out what’s going with the bizarre true crime.

Sent For A Competency Evaluation

Radar Online reported on Wednesday, that Ollinger appeared in court for a hearing following the December 26 killing of his cellmate. According to the outlet, “Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman” unsurprisingly agreed with the attorney representing Ollinger. They wanted a mental competency evaluation done.

So, he told him, “Your attorney has some concerns about your mental health. They want you to go up and talk to the doctors.”

Frankly, it’s not unexpected given the very strange events that led up to the death of Christopher Kelly, who was unfortunate enough to share cell space with the man known for exploring for treasure and the paranormal.

The Claims Of ‘Supernatural Powers’

Christopher Kelly wasn’t in jail for messing with young kids, and there’s apparently no indication of a history of crimes against minors. Still, he ended up strangled and beaten to death after Chad Ollinger claimed that he’d gotten “supernatural powers.” His new psychic ability, he told officers, helped him know about Kelly’s secret crimes.

While true crime enthusiasts might slam the idea of potentially getting off on the grounds of insanity, the judge could hardly let that aspect go uninvestigated. After all, it’s really not the most normal reason in the world for open murder.

No Remorse & Memory Loss Claims

After the dead man was found, there seemed to be no remorse from Ollinger, who reportedly told the police “good luck” in solving the case. He’s innocent until proven guilty, but although he claimed short term memory loss from the trauma, he didn’t deny participation in the nasty assault.

While we reported that many fans of the Discovery show believed the nature of Blind Frog Ranch was to blame, that seems unlikely. It’s a reality TV show that’s mostly about hunting for treasure, although instances of the paranormal have been explored. However, true life can be more bizarre than fantastic theories about weird things happening.

If found incompetent to stand trial, then most likely, Ollinger will end up being held in some sort of mental health facility. So, it seems totally unlikely that fans will ever see him on screen again, unless Netflix picks up his story sometime in the future.

Weird Story Breeds More Weirdness?

Weird stories seem to breed more weird stories, and when one person revisited a video by Discover Update when Chad went missing in July, they had another theory to offer. They felt that being jailed in Vegas was to blame.

On a side note, Ollinger was in a jail in Nevada after he was caught for speeding in another state. Later, he ran a red light and that was followed by a hot pursuit and attempt to evade the cops. He ended up in Nevada’s jail because he was wanted in Texas.

The commenter said:

Been living in vegas for a while now. That jail CCDC has weird experiments going on with people locked up. Psycho services constantly offered plus the food makes your body feel ill. This is the only jail where people are constantly told they can read minds or hear people talking about them without them talking out loud. When I was in there I had a similar experience.

Of course, it could be a bunch of nonsense, but that certainly seems like something that should be investigated, given what Ollinger claimed.

Is That A valid Claim?

Actually, the mind reading claims do reflect a disturbing pattern of psychological problems at the CCDC. For example, Ellis v. Clark County Detention Center faced a federal lawsuit that described an inmate who was allegedly denied psychiatric medication. He lost his stability and began hallucinating.

Jail staff allegedly told him to kill himself instead of providing medical help. Of course, that sort of thing, if true, could quickly worsen an inmate’s mental state.

The idea of dodgy jail food isn’t new, either, per the Las Vegas Review Journal. Fernando Martinez Jr., a schizophrenic inmate, believed his food was poisoned. He starved to death in his cell while waiting for a competency transfer.

Legal filings described the CCDC’s environment as a sensory nightmare, with inmates experiencing 24-hour lighting and constant noise. Of course, that could lead to hallucinations and strange beliefs in supernatural powers.
